Just purchased Akebono one piece pads, for 2010 GS, they dont have holes in them for the pins, will I be correct, by taking all the pins out of the caliper to install them correctly? Also, does anyone know if they can be installed without the shims that came with the pads, in other words, installed with existing hardware because I have no idea how to put on the shims that came with the pads, and I am pretty good figuring things out.
I think you could get into an issue without the pins. I believe Carbotech was first company to offer them and they indicated they worked with GM to determine if they could eliminate the pins and found they could not eliminate them. At a minimum you would need the pins located at the ends of each pad since the pads get jammed against them when you hit the brakes. Without those pins the pads would be jamming against the aluminum caliper and causing it to wear. Maybe the end pins aren't strong enough on their own since in the original design they only had to handle the force generated by one padlet Vs a complete single piece pad. With individual padlets and single piece pads with holes in them the force gets distributed across multiple pins.
None of the pads I have purchased came with shims so I am not familiar with where the shims you have would be used.

No, leave pins in and pull the 2 caliper bolts at the bottom. Shims we do not use sorry.
Thanks everyone for your input but I returned the pads, I don't think Akebono makes a one piece pad for the GS or ZO6, at least know one has provided the right part number yet. I called Akebono and they never called me back. Luckily I did not need the pads, I just wanted to put them on for low dust reasons. I think the pads I was sent(ACT 731) are for base C6. If anyone knows otherwise please post info.

731 is for c5 and c6 base and z51. The 06 to present zo6 is 1185. Well if you want a low dusting pad give me a call I will be happy to help you.

Buy the carbotechs instead. They are drilled for the pins and very easily install from the bottom when you remove the calipers. I have them on my 2011 GS, one of the first mods I have done at 1000 miles and very happy with them, great performance, very little dust and whisper quiet.
