Default Troubleshooting

I've been reading a lot but still need to ask the question. With my recent issues and my interaction let us say with Chevrolet about DIC. I have a cheap hand held scanner Actron CP9175 that I can read and delete codes with but It appears there are more codes stored in the computer that will be helpful to me in diagnosing electrical problems that i cannot get to with this Scanner. What do I need to Purchase to become actively involved in the diagnosing of my issues? Needless to say i was very Disappointed with the Service Tech at this local chevy dealer.

Find someone in your area with a GM TECH 2 with a CANdI add on or find a GM MODIS Scanner. If you have to purchase one it is EXPENSIVE!

That will read ALL the DTCs and be able to properly diagnosis your issues. I think the SNAP ON Scanner (read expensive) also reads all the dtcs as well as other high end scanners.

I have an Actron CP 9180 and it has the same issue. Cant see Body Code or EBTCM codes.

Look at the Matco tools units. Start with the CAN400 model.

It's been more than a year since I was looking around but I think I saw some units that could read more than the basic stuff but I don't remember specifics. Might be worth the time to look.

Thats why I do a lot of local net working. Find local Corvette and GM friends with all the cool tools. Trade services. I do excellent mechanical repairs and excellent electrical troubleshooting.
I trade that for people with access to cool tuning and troubleshooting tools..

There should be people in you area that have all this stuff. You just need to find them.

I have the top-of-the-line Innova scanner, and that one can read ABS and SRS codes, plus read real-time data. Not worth spending big bucks on a professional unit IMO, unless your car is a POS and you have the talent to fix it yourself .

Sounds like a good idea. In the spring when it gets warm i plan on doing some of the car events and get to know the people in my area.
