G'day hope someone can advise me here, I have a 2007 Z06 which is "new" to me and the engine light is on, reading the manual it could be beacause I just filled the tank with 98 octane fuel which is the highest in Australia. I have already checked the fuel cap and also the plug to coils to see if they were loose as it seems to have a slight misfire, but everything is tight. Not a lot of people here who know about Z06 Vette's so I thought I'd try the Forum. Regards Alpha.
Could be a lot of things. The only real way to understand what it's complaining about is to read the codes it's setting. If you don't already have one, you really need to invest in a good CANbus capable, OBD II code reader.
You might want to also post in the Z06 Forum just in case there is something unique with the Z06's. Good luck.
Thanks Rick T, I have ordered a SCT tuner from Corvette Central but wont see it for awhile due to xmas holidays etc, appreciate your quick reply and thanks for the welcome.
Any cheap obd2 code reader from a parts store should work to check codes. Most parts stores over here will check for free. I think all cars are set up the same now days. Order one on Fleabay for less than $50.
Thanks gotjuice, not sure if our parts store will have anything for a Vette over here, but I'll look on the site you have suggested. Regards Alpha.
The reader they are talking about is universal so stopping by any autoparts store that had one could read your computer and tell you whats up.
Typically if the light is constant the issue is emissions related and doesn't usually cause engine damage. When the light flashes it is indicating a misfire or knock and is not safe for the engine to be running.
Thanks for your reply SinisterC6, Car seems to run OK just a bit nerve racking to see an engine light constantly on. I'm also having trouble with the L/H power window, it goes up & down by the main R/H switches but only down using the L/H switch. I have tried to reset them by the owners manual, still no good. Perhaps a rely issue ? Only having just got the car, I'm still getting to try and understand all it's data you can enter.
Had the same problem with the windows on my 07/A6. Sad to say things didn't get better only worse. Check if the security light stays on after start up. After a while the drivers window did'nt work at all. After driving to work one morn. in the pouring rain with a drivers side window that is stuck down and with every swipe of the wiper throwing water in my lap, off to the dealer she went. Turned out to be a broken wire in the drivers door. $230 later she's all better. WELCOME and the best of luck!
Thanks for your response and welcome, appreciate the advise I'm getting, hope it doesn't turn out to be as bad as a broken wire, although I suppose it could be worse than that again. Once the Christmas period is over I will get an auto electrician to have a look.
Good luck and keep us posted. Does Australia have emissions testing and do all of your automobiles have the OBD11 port under the dash to test for codes?
G'day, I checked under the dash to make sure the car had the OBD11 port after the left to right hand corversion was done and all good there. There are a few copmpanies that do the conversions here in OZ, and luckily the best in the business did mine. Mind you for $50k the job would want to be good. The car seems to behave ok, so I'm thinking it's just a fuel issue, once the tank lowers in fuel I 'll top it up with BP 98 octane and see what happens. I wont see the SCT tuner until late Jan 13, I expect. We do have emission testing and it passed ok. Regards and thanks for your post.
It won't hurt to try a "computer re-set". Unhook the negative cable from your battery, wait a few minutes, and re-attach. Sometimes this takes care of a variety of problems. Hope it works. Enjoy that car!
Thanks Carpe DM, I will give that a try, the previous owner didn't drive it much and always disconnected the battery rather than trickle charge it. You maybe onto something.
I will post back later today and advise how it went. Appreciate all the help I'm getting on Corvette Forum, should have joined years ago when I bought my first Vette, I'm now on my fourth and still have my 82 Collector as well as the Z06. Wish the factory would consider selling through our GM dealers here, but can't see that happening for a long time if ever !
