Default ZR1 CLUTCH ASSY is that all I need ?

I have a C6 M6 with 500 RWHP & 4.10 Gears. I got a good deal on a ZR-1
LS9 Clutch Pressure Plate @ Flywheel and Bearing. Is that all I need or is there some other parts that I would still need outside of a Remote bleeder
assy. My present clutch is shot after doing all the Ranger stuff and removing the Spring. It's time to get it fixed and look at options like
a STEEL or ALUMINUM Flywheel. Can I have some feedback from those who made the change and liked it. Thanks, Leon

Default What are you guys using

I Thought the LS9 setup is the way to go. Please avoid trying
to sell me something on this thread. We have a place for that.

I am interesting in those who found the assy they liked and why
they liked it. Also the remote bleeder. is it easy to use and have there been any problems with it ? Thanks, Leon

I am not selling anything!

I did a twin disk Centerforce with Tick Master and bleeder. I drove two cars (both LS engines, one with more HP and with less) and I liked the feel of it. I did the Tick becasue the OE one sucks and bought the bleeder at the same time. You can do the bleeder with out the master, they are independent from each other.

The downside is, you will quickly run the bill up to $2,000 before labor.

You must use a different flywheel. only Katech or Lingenfelter make them for this clutch assy.

I appreciate you trying to help bro. The only thing is it would be a good idea to PM Me about the Item. I just had a thread locked out and I really
dont like to see that lock at the start of my thread. Thanks again.

Default Getting it together.

Cant I just get a ls9 assy from the GM parts dealer and have it put in.
Evidently not. I dont know why. I know I would want the remote bleeder KIT to maintain it. I need some feedback from someone who done it. Thanks, Leon

Flywheel for ls9 won't bolt to your crankshaft, which is why u have to run a custom flywheel with ls9 clutch assembly

With all the customization that you are doing on the clutch parts,, here are a couple of recommendations:

1. Make SURE that you address the flywheel balance between the new flywheel and the OEM flywheel. I had my C5 SPEC Duel Disk match balanced and I didn’t have any vibration issues. Worked out excellent!

2. MAKE SURE that you measure for proper clutch pressure plate release fingers to throw out bearing face air gap. Get the clearance too tight and you will not have full clutch engagement. Too big and you will not have proper clutch release.

There is an excellent modification that you can make to get more fresh air into the bell housing. This prevents clutch dust build up and excessive heat buildup. Check it out and see if you can incorporate it:

All you need is the aftermarket zr1 flywheel to bolt up to the ls2/ls3.
I have one if your interested. With this flywheel the oem zr1 clutch would bolt right up, you don't need the slave.

I have installed quite a few ZR1 clutches in C6's. I always used the LS9 gm clutch disc /and pp, 6 bolt aluminum flywheel from Katech, GM pilot bearing, ZR1 slave cylinder, and a SS remote bleeder.

Every one has had perfect drivability with a pedal feel close to stock.

If you need anything feel free to give us a call.

I never replaced the slave on mine and it felt just like stock.

I think you hit the nail on the Head. One decision left is the choice of a steel or aluminum Flywheel. I found a couple of deals that offer that choice in the ls9 package. I think the Aluminum would be snappier than
the steel but but may warp sooner. Just a guess. Have anybody made a comparison or do most go with the Steel or Aluminum. I do not do the Track I'm kind of a 30-100 guy.

We use a Katech aluminum flywheel with every ls9 clutch we install. I drive every one of them and i would say it is about the perfect combination for the power it holds. There is no extra effort needed to drive the car. Pedal travel stays close to stock and engagement is not like an on-off switch like some twin discs.

GtoDoug is a 30-100 guy like you and very well versed on clutches. I think he has had them all. You might want to pm him as he isn't on as much as he used to be.

Also, FNABADZ06 is putting in the zr1 clutch into his z06, he has similar power as you. Check out his new PB thread 10,84 @ 128 in the Z06 section. He will give you a good analysis, he does great analysis if you look at his past threads.

Reading PA? I doubt it is exactly in Reading as my address is Reading but I am not in Reading if that really doesn't make your head spin lol. It would be nice to check out your car at a local meet sometime. Stop in to see me for parts if you need any.

Curious as to how many people really have issues with the stock clutch at 500RWHP? We sell plenty of the LS3/LS7 clutches to people with that power all week long and there are no issues. I am over 600RWPH in my Camaro with the stock clutch, same as LS3/LS7 and it isn't even giving me any problems. I don't beat the daylights out of it and I've only put on like 900 miles since the supercharger, cam and headers so maybe it is a ticking time bomb.

I was just talking to Patrich about Clutch assy as I would have to get
a special Flywheel to replicate the LS9. As it turns out when the car was stock the clutch was fine. As a bolton at 412 rw the clutch was fine . Once I got the Cam in it then the clutch started sticking to the floor at 5800 Rpm. I learned about ranger too late .

I have the Katech LS9X clutch in my car, stock power. Very good kit, ordered the remote bleeder also. While not as easy as the stock clutch it is not an off/on switch. Even my wife does not mind it to much. It is more difficult to modulate but not really that bad.
