Default Tire install question

I bought Hankook tires from Discount Tires when they offered them for sale around Memorial Day and i'm looking to get them installed soon, a new tire store just opened where i live and i got a price of $160.00 to mount and balance these tires the place is Mr Tire and they said they use the Hunter Road force balancer, he looked at me kind of funny when i asked what equipment they use for balancing tires, i have an 05 Vette with 21k miles and the original Goodyears not sure if i should change the TPMS sensors when i put the tires on , the tire guy wouldn't give me a definitive answer as of right now they are working, and does anyone think $160.00 is an ok price he told me these wheels would take near 3 hours to put tires on so they don't damage the wheels, which means i would have to leave the car until they finish

Aftemarket wheels? I'd change those sensors at the age of them.

"Near three hours"? For WHAT? I have the factory chrome wheels(2008 vert)and the Firestone store mounted and balanced all four of mine while I waited. 45 minutes, maybe a hour tops. That included jacking it up by hand. I stayed with the car and watched and talked crap with the guy's (2)mounted and balanced my new tires. No charge to mount,I bought tires from them. Road force balancing was $15 bucks a wheel.

Tire Rack has a list of recommended installers that includes prices.

TPMS sensors should last 10 years, so replace them now or later depending on how often you go through a set of tires (or how lucky you feel).

They have a good list. $160 to mount and balance 4 tires is ridiculous. When I bought my Michelins at Costco, they gave me a great price and then mounting, balancing and road hazard coverage was only $14 per tire.

Take it back to Discount to have them mounted and road force balanced. Since you bought them there, they will give you a better price. Most tire places will charge more if you don't buy the tires from them. That may be why that other place is so high. It's still on the high end even if that is the case though.

I missed that he bought them from Discount...take them there or America's Tire, which is part of Discount.

TPMS sensors are a MAX of 10 years. Your at 8. I'd replace them now while tires are off the rims. Shop E/bay for them.

Thanks Guys, i'm gonna order a set of TPMS sensors on Monday, now that i know the life expectancy of the sensors are 10 years, i will definitely replace them, also looked up on Tire Racks website and it showed a number of places that will mount these tires for me for quite a bit less than what i was quoted, a Firestone dealer less than 5 miles from me, Thanks Again.

I pay $70 for four tires mounted and balanced. Takes about 1 hour. Tires were not purchased at the tire store that mounted the tires.
