You probably should consider yourself very lucky. I think the prevalent sentiment is, if you haven't had a problem with the CL, you will someday, it's just a matter of time. But it would seem time has forgotten you, maybe? Anyway, count your blessings and just be prepared if things do start to go sideways, have a plan based on the experiences of others here.
I assume you have a manual transmission - because the automatic doesn't have the column lock.
I sold my '05 Coupe to my brother-in-law several years ago, and when I was up visiting him last summer I installed the bypass just so he won't ever have any problem.
If I still owned the car I would have installed it for my own peace of mind, so I put it in just so he wouldn't ever have to worry about the problem.
After two C5s. Steering column lock malfunction will occur when it sits in the hot sun. Of course just my opinion ! And the bypass will take out the BCM over time. Again Opinion.
I am really stumped and need help. Recently purchased a 2005 convert, manual trans, Z51 with 50K on the odometer. The service column lock message showed up almost immediatly. Having done some reseach before I bought the car I expected the COH's lock eliminator would fix the problem. I installed the lock eliminator and the first drive (60 miles) no DIC message. Next drive (next day) I started getting the message again. I thought the colum lock controller the eliminator plugged into was bad. First drive (30 miles) after installation of a new column lock module no message. Next day started getting the message. The column has never locked since I bought the car, 4 weeks ago, you can turn the wheel full cirlce when the car is off, not running or in assessory mode. Do I need to pull the steering wheel and actually replace the column lock mechinism? Has anyone else heard of the lock eliminator not working?
I went back trough the process to install the CLE and realized that when I am in Assessory Mode and I unplugged the Column Lock plug from the column lock module my DIC did not post the service column lock message, that tells me something up stream of the column lock moduel is not sending a message or ??. Has anyone heard of any other process to eliminate the Column lock? I am thinking one of the previous owners ( there are 2 possible 3) disconnected something and it is effecting the column lock. I do know the trans speed sensor is disconnect on the transmission. I think they diconnected that to avoid the 1st to 4th shift. Any help is greatly apprciated.

I did the $600+ SCL replacement about a year before the cheap bypass came out!
And then sold the car through a friend/dealer a few months back.
