Default Need help to identify broken part

This is in an 08 LS3 coupe. I was changing my oil. I found this item attached to my drain plug. I am not familiar with the inside of an LS engine. I was hoping someone could help me. The outer diameter of it is about 1/2 inch.

Possibly part of a valve stem seal.

Is there any problems with it not being there? I will be replacing the valve springs in about 5-7k miles.

Thanks 1fastbob and glenb for the responses.
