I will be having LG longtube headers installed on my 2008 LS3. I have searched the forums and can't get a definitive answer at all... If I go with NO CATS how "strong" will the fuel odor be if any?
ALSO- Does running with no cats have any lasting negative effects on the O2 sensors? I only want to do it once, as much as I really want the car louder I don't want a strong fuel odor all the time. (NPP will help control sound when needed)
Correct me if I am wrong but isn't it illegal to run with no cats? I had a similiar conversation with my dad about dropping the cats so i could make for a loud deep no muffled sound on my 08 also and run 31" glasspacks like we did on my 86 dodge pickup. But apparently no cats is illegal, so I couldn't/won't be able to do that. From an emissions standpoint you are going to fail your state inspection depending on where you live. Have you considered high flow cats? I think thats the closest to no cats as you are going to get to no cats unless your car is considered race only and not tagged for the street...but thats just a guess on my part. There are alot of articles about exhaust on here. Feel free to correct me.
That didn't really answer your question, but as far odor goes....I can't honestly answer that, but I would assume you would have a bit more than normal due to less restriction, IMHO I wouldn't worry about the smell of spent gases as long as they aren't coming into your car, if they are just drive faster to escape them.

It is different in each State. MN has no emmissions compliance thus I dont think it will ever be an issue to run with No-cats.

I'll put it this way. When I had the offroad I had to "sprint" out of the garage to try to flee the clothing and skin penetrating odor! Never worked though, I couldn't run fast enough.

Was your car on a factory tune, or whos tune. What other mods did you have? Thanks
FELLAS! I see and read so many posts, please take the 30 seconds to respond. It will truly be my make or break decision on going with or without hi-flow CATS! I really only want to do the mod ONCE! thanks!
Example, or your car and mod list? Anything to make your thought more valid than just simply making a statement? Was your car tuned after CAT delete, and when do you smell "fuel" ? Thanks
07 H/C base c6 mith OBX LT's and Corsa Xtreme and obviously a tune. My cabin sometimes makes me dizzy and every single time I drive the car my wife tells me to shower and change when I get home. I had this same question BEFORE I did the H/C when it was just LT's and exhaust....I should have put cats on then, they are certainly on my future to do list, it's almost to the point where it's unbearable.
Things to consider.....I live in LA (ton of traffice/stop and go) while your moving its not noticeable but when you stop at a light the fumes creep into the cabin. I have had friends behind me comment about the smell (again BEFORE i did the H/C).
Bottom line, save the headache and get the HF cats, you can always take them off, but then again, why would you take them off?

My Camaro had a Supercharged 416 stroker 740rwhp. No Cat will hold up at that power so obviously i had to delete them. Cruising around town and at stop lights in the summer with the windows down the smell of fuel was very heavy and got in my clothes.
Hope this helps you decide. I would recommend holding onto your cats in Case you regret that mod you can always put them back on.
I suggest you get Hi flow cats.
