Default valve spring life??

I installed Comp Cams valve springs in late 2009 (spring # 26925, retainer # 1779, spring seat # 1695). These springs were installed with Spin's 230/234 cam. A new Katech IWIS timing chain was also installed. With other supporting mods recommended by Spin the car has made close to 500 RWHP.

This build has app 8000 street miles on it with no racing. Question is do these springs need to be changed at intervals based on miles, use ect. ????

A lot would depend on how the engine is used, but the shop that will be doing my mods suggests around 25K miles for a valve spring re-fresh.

It also depends on which lobe shapes the cam has (LSL, LSK, LXL etc). Some lobes are really hard on the valve train, and other aren't as hard, even with similar looking spec sheets.

A lot can effect valve spring life. A cold spring (doesn't let oil temp come up to normal operating temp) that see's higher RPMs will fail sooner. I recommend every 25k miles to be on the side of caution. a few dollars to replace valve springs vs replacing an entire engine when you drop a valve.

Thanks for the input. With 8000 relatively easy miles on the springs they have a lot of life left.

to add life, if your vehicle is dormant over the winter months/storage months, back the rockers off
used to be an old trick for solid cams, the ole rule was anything past .550

not sure if you race the car often, but i've heard people use drop in mph as another factor when needing them replaced
you'll see that more with solid cam profiles since they work the springs more

The lobes you have aren't that extreme so you should be good with the 25K that the previous poster recommended.
