Default FOB programming experts.... help !!

I have tried everything I can think of. I am trying to do the long procedure and reprogram 3 fobs to my car. Every time I turn the key 5 times in the trunk lock, the DIC displays "maximum number of FOBs learned"
I can not get past this step no matter what I do. I searched, read and tried everything I can think of. Any ideas ?

Just curious, do the 3 fobs currently work or not? I'm pretty sure you need at least one that works but not positive.

2 work. It is an 07 car and I want to use a new style FOB so I want to just reprogram them all with the new one first so it operates as fob 1. I bought this car when it was about 6 months old so its possible the previous owner programmed 4 in for some reason. I have the 2 originals and they work fine.

I assume you saw THIS thread for the long procedure?
Especially the part that says NO FOBS NEAR THE CAR WHEN TURNING THE KEY 5X.

I believe this is your problem. The response you are getting is what you would expect when doing the short procedure to ADD another FOB to the ones already programmed to the car. In the short procedure, after you turn the key 5 times, the DIC would say ready for FOB 3, or FOB 4 whichever is the next one in line. But in your case it's telling you it's full and can't program any more FOB's.

So, as silly as this might sound, I believe it's still seeing one or more of your existing FOB's, wherever they are located. You need to move then FAR FAR away.

I had this argument with someone a couple years ago. He swore he moved them far away. Well, they were in the house. I told him to take them to his neighbor's house or at least to the farthest point on his property. That worked.

I know, it sound ridiculous considering how many people we see here having problems getting their FOB recognized when it's in the car. I have no explanation. I guess conditions can be just right for the signal to travel a LONG way.

Good luck. Let us know.

If necessary wrap them in tin foil. I think that totally blocks the signal.

I will try tomorrow. I guess it is possible as the fobs were not all that far away.

Hey bud.

I get that but I can't get past the message I get. It goes away and leaves the programming mode in about 10 seconds.

You have to clear all FOBs and re-learn the fobs you wish to retain. Better snag a Tech 2 or head to the dealer. I have had nothing but issues with some years and had to resort to a Tech2.

Sounds like it thinks there's a FOB lurking too close. Mail them to me and give it a whirl?

This process is supposed to be easy. If only the darn cars would agree to that!

Maybe the previous owner hid a fob someplace in the car? Check the obvious first.

Montreal? Would you happen to have a car that was "made" for delivery in Canada?

Also: Canadian Spec cars can do the short programming procedure but must have the dealer perform the long programming procedure.
That is one of my qualifiers on top of the FOB programming table.

Nope... US car...

Interestingly, I went out last night and the car started with the fob but had switched back to default settings. When I tried to set the options, it told me..."no options available". After I finished what I was doing and started it to come home, everything was back to my presets and options working.

Possessed ???

Some of that left handed smoke is making it over from Denver to your car. I'm thinking stoned or possessed fer sure.

I agree here...the message you are getting means that the car presently has 4 fobs programmed to it. If it were a Canadian car, you would be required to take it to a dealer (and pay a no doubt inflated price) to have them clear all fobs and replace the programming with the fobs that you have.
But in your case, do you know where the fourth fob is? The message you are getting would be consistent with doing the short procedure and having a fob in the car while turning the key. Are you absolutely sure that there is no fob in the car? Where are those two fobs that the car recognizes and that you don't have?

Along those lines, how about some outside interference (garage door opener or whatever giving a signal being misinterpreted as a "FOB") ?

This stuff...

vehicle monitoring
remote control
telemetry
small-range wireless network
wireless meter reading
access control systems
wireless home security systems
area paging
industrial data acquisition system
radio tags reading
RF contactless smart cards
wireless data terminals
wireless fire protection systems
biological signal acquisition
hydrological and meteorological monitoring
robot remote control
wireless data transmissions
digital video/audio transmission
digital home automation, such as remote light/switch
Industrial remote control, telemetry and remote sensing.
Alarm systems and wireless transmission for various types of low-rate digital signal.
Remote control for various types of household appliances and electronics projects.
many other applications field related to RF wireless controlling
Mobile web server for elderly people monitoring

All of those can interfere with the FOB, can they also give a signal to "be" a FOB?

I only have 2 fobs that I got with the car. there are definitly no fobs in the car as I have had that thing totally in pieces and would have seen it.
This weekend I am going to try moving the fobs further way, but you just gave me an idea you genious......

My car has a boomerang tracking system... maybe interference from that ??
