Default Need new tires help please

Hello there

Well spring has finally sprung here in upstate New York and when checking my tires before taking out the car I noticed the front two were worn right down to the point of metal showing . The rears seem fine so I'm looking to just replace the fronts. Obviously I would like to keep the tires matching but don't know weather or not to go with run flats for the front again. So I'm looking for suggestions as to what to do. The car is a 2009 coupe that my wife and I use strictly as a pleasure vehicle . Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated .

I bought 4 Michelin Super Sports. They are NOT runflats, but they are far superior to what came on the car.

Not a good idea to go with runflats on the rear and non-runflats on the front, or vice versa.

The safe way is to replace all 4, sell the used rear ones.

Usually, people get away with mixing tires or tread depth. But not always, and the results can get nasty in a hurry.

Do you just go with a 12 volt compressor and a can of fix a flat?

Those are my next set of tires and I always have the GOOD fix a flat kit that comes with a compressor in the kit in the car just in case. Ive used the kit on a car many years ago and it worked great, I ran it like that for 3 days before gettin git fixed and it doesnt mess with the TPMS. Good kit for 20 bucks or so.

Default Tire Problems since cam.

I am an older guy so be patient. My mechanic and I, good friends since late 1980 decided to put cam in 09 coupe, which has Z51 Package. I went to no problem raceway, in Donaldsonville, LA. I have stock runflat plain jane pilot Sport. I launched ok, not good but 60' 1.86, when car shifts to second rear broke loose , I let up, sideways on track, straightened it ou and went 12.60 at 114. The tires wont hold at all. I need advice, and I have extra 19in wheels for rear to mount what ever someone could recommend. Hope I don't bore you young guys in the forums, but been away from it too long to have any knowledge to use proper tires to correct this. Please advise and recommend what I may use. I am hoping I am in correct forum for this information?

My recommendation would be the Toyo Proxis 4 tires. I have run them for 5 years now and they are an excellent tire. Long wear and very good in the rain. A nice riding quiet tire under normal conditions. Traction was very good before I added about 200 hp to my motor. LOL. I now run MT Street radials on the rear when it isn't raining. The MT's are worse than bad when it's wet, so don't run MT"s in the rain. They will hydroplane and I spun 3 lefts and 3 rights before I got it under control. Luckily, I didn't hit anybody or anything, but it sure scared the crap out of me!

Buy 2 NT05Rs for the back and use your extra rims for them and only use them on track days. DD the pilot SS come out ahead in most reviews as the best summer DD tire that does good in all areas, except really cold weather.

Buy the same (matching) new tires for the front only, or if you want to go to a different type of tire, replace all four tires.

Tire Rack has a kit made by Continental that solves the issue.

GM put Michelins on the ZR1 for a reason.

I would second the recommendation on the Nitto NT05R. In size 305/35/19 they will fit your spare rear rims. Tires need to be warmed up with cold pressure inflation at 20psi and of course t/c off. They should hook that cam up in second.

Thanks everyone on my tire issues. I will follow Rathmullan and S'Vette's advice and get the Nitto NT05R. I called nitto for dealer in my area, and happens I know the owner quite well. I will follow with any results soon as I can get everything going, and back to the track. Thanks again for the advice.
