Yesterday driving home in my 12' GS w/ headers, off road pipe & NPP, I nailed it at about 65 mph, trans was in S, now I'm not sure if I bumped the paddle or what but this thing screamed up to red line hitting the limiter. At first I thought I blew the engine as it was so loud with the NPP, or thought I exploded a muffler. Either way the car obviously acted as designed, fuel shut off & spark pulled back or whatever it should be called. The car sputtered for a second or 2 & returned to normal driving, I should be just fine correct?
Thnaks, Ken

Have hit it numerous times in my GF's 2010 GS (A6) and it's fine. Stupid paddle shifters are so slow to respond when using them and trying to get every rpm. Definitely on the list to "tune" once some headers and intake go on her car.

A tune will not decrease the delay between hitting the paddle and starting the shift; it will only decrease the time the actual shift takes once it starts.
The paddles will always be slow to react, unfortunately
I have a call out to my tuner but with only mods being Kooks headers & off road pipe I can't imagine the shift points have been adjusted or raised.
Thanks to all,

Not comletely true.
A very good transmission tune will make the paddles work quite well, and you wont have to do the shift and wait routine. Not something you can do with the normal tune software. Chuck COW and ECS are the only ones I have felt that seem right.
There is also some changes in shift firmware and trans. pressure settings between years.
If the rev limit was left at the factory settings, it's fine. If it was jacked up, maybe not. You need to make sure if the rev limit has been modified or not, and it's setting if modified.
As you nailed it hard at 65 there's a good chance the trans dropped into 2nd gear which then redlines very quickly. Bouncing off the limiter is fairly common, especially in autox where you may not want to shift prior to an upcoming corner. So, no harm there.
Next time, use the paddles to downshift into 3rd and take off from there. You'll have much better control.

Thanks Dan, Certainly felt like that is what happened, now add in headers & open NPP exhaust, I thought I blew the exhaust off the back of the car! Scared the sh*%t outa me.

IMHO some tuners raise the rev limit a bit much.
Hm....I don't know about that. I don't think there is anything in the tune to do that. If there was a way to make the paddles remove the delay I would pay any amount to make that happen if it were a software change.

Haven't done it yet myself but know a handful of people here locally, ridden in their cars, and their trans tune made the shifts pop. No GTR or Ferrari speeds but definitely noticeable when compared to stock settings. I can hit the paddle at 6k and it will take it to almost rev limiter to actually shift; that's pathetic. These other guys can go right to the limiter and hit the paddle without hitting the limiter.
Don't know what's being changed but can confirm whatever it is works from my own eyes.
