Default MGW Shifter

It seems in other threads there is a lot of differing opinions on the brand of shifter everyone likes and uses.

I'm leaning toward the MGW with Lower Box. Does anyone else use this shifter for everyday driving?

I thought about Hurst Shifter, but no one seems to be using one for me to compare it's use. Thanks.

I have tried them all over the years and MGW is by far the best.

MGW is owned by a person with a passion for cars. Hurst and B&M are owned by investment bankers........

Since I have only had experience with MGW on my 08, I don't know how it compares to anything but stock. The MGW is a big improvement over stock.

I can tell you it's an improvement over every shifter I've had in either my C5Z or C6Z! This includes the Hurst, Kirban, and the 427x. I don't have the lower box in either, but I'm sure knowing George at MGW, it's a big improvement over stock. The poly bushings in the MGW box alone should provide a much smoother surface for the box!

I just installed the shifter top. It is great. The car is new to me so i didn't know the previous owner had put a B&M shifter in it. This is much better. Very precise. I work for a defense contractor and when we make a mechanical assembly it costs alot, but is built very very well. The MGW looks Full-Mil. It has an extra block of metal just for vibration damping (I think) and the 4 bolts that hold it down have extra allen locking bolts. You don't see that on most standard products; but I can only compare to the B&M.
I opted for the threaded shaft that is standard on the C5 and mounted a solid hurst ball. It is short and tight. I thought the OEM C6 ****, while very ergonomic, had a cheap tin top and they whole **** felt mushy. (I did spend $15 for the C6 shaft in case I ever want to go back). Best of luck to you.

Have you looked at the "about mgw" section on their web site?

Default had mine for 3 years...installed at 40k miles by Penske INDY

I think it is TOO stiff - although it has loosened up a bit over past year(or maybe I'm thoroughly used to it)
1st thru 4th is nice'n quick...
pattern from 4th to 5th is DEFINITELY a dogleg jog up and over to the right; sixth gear has to be precise also(down right).

I tend to skip gears alot on FL A1A, in interest of economy(!)
3rd to 5th is real EZ; 4th to 6th not so good(could be tranny arms!).

furthermore, HEAT seems to aggravate stiffness/precision(after driving 15-20+ hours non-stop on I-10 FLA-TX&beyond, multiple times)

The new lower billet box makes the stiffness of the shifter almost to stock levels but much more positive. It's a big difference.
