I have a 07-ZO6. About 2 weeks ago I started hearing what sounds like a whine from under the car. The whine was most noticeable where the shifter comes up through the floor. I took the console out and with a stethoscope went on a test drive. While looking like a nut driving with a stethoscope on I tried to see if the sound was being caused bye the torque tube. I could not tell! With the console out and the shifter boot off the whine is quite loud. The best way I can explain it is, it sounds like a skil saw. Not as loud as a saw but that type of sound, a high pitch whine. Or maby dry metal on metal. It will do it in all gears. Higher the gear, higher the speed, louder the whine. When you let off the gas [ with it still in gear ] it will still do it but as the car slows down because you are not giving it gas the whine goes back down in volume. While going down the road if you put the clutch in or put the transmission in neutral the whine stops. Let the clutch out with it in gear it starts again.
I have been reading all the post I can find that might tell me what is causing this but I haven't found much. I forgot to add that this car only has 19'000 miles and has not been abused. I would like to take this car on vacation soon but I can't If I cant find and fix the problem.
If anyone has had this problem and has found the fix would you let me know please. Your help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Start with the easy stuff. Drain/inspect/replace the trans and diff fluids. if all looks well and the noise is still present then you're most likely looking at TT bearings or the slave/TOB. Neither of those are anything to worry about leaving you stranded on your trip.

I would say it could be the release bearing but it will sound bad with the car moving or not. To test it press on the clutch pedal lightly while the engine is running at idle and see if there is a change in the noise on or off the pedal. There are bearings in the torque tube that will whine when they run dry but I would check the fluid levels in the transmission and rear end first. A torque tube bearing/s (I would replace both if you get in there) are not expensive but very labor intensive to replace.
Get a Corvette shop to listen to it and get a couple of opinions before you let anybody try to fix it.
At 6 years old, I'd change both the differential and transmission fluids now, since that needs to be done regardless. But before draining anything, remove the fill plugs (you should always do that) AND check both levels first (car cold AND LEVEL). If not full, after checking level, check for obvious leaks all around. Did you buy the car new? Did you ever check the diff and tranny fluid levels before? Hope so. You should always do that, if at all possible. Most of my new cars (and I've bought quite a few) have had one or more of the fluids low, so I'm talking out of personal experience.
Anyway, my diff fluid was black like crude oil at only 2K miles, due to assembly contamination. The tranny fluid wasn't like that, but since it wasn't synthetic (not even a blend), decided to change it with Amsoil TorqueDrive Dexron III ATF fluid (what it's called for). I always like to change fluids on new cars relatively early the first time, to get rid of assembly/break-in contamination/impurities. Just make sure whatever tranny fluid you buy says 'Dexron III compatible'. Cross your fingers that those 2 things fix your issue. If not, you're looking at one of the more involved (and expensive) fixes already mentioned. Keep us posted, and good luck.
is this noise constant in all gears or is it intermittant, and you notice it every so often,,,is it like a buzz that you can feel through the gear shift ****??
