vette owners are just plain smart! I don't think there's anything you all can't figure out if we keep kicking ideas around!
Sounds like a plan. I replaced the drivers door, even brought it to dealer...but that was couple of years back and I can't really remember if it totally solved problem or not.

thanks for all the input

I am pretty sure that is considered common sense.

Take it apart, remove the corrosion from the contact surfaces, coat it with dielectric grease, reassemble, and reattach.

Took me all of a 20 minutes, taking my time.
Had the same problem, cleaned the touchpad and voila...Worked perfectly.

Make sure to apply the grease, otherwise the freshly clean contact points will corrode again. And much quicker, because you have exposed the bare metal.

Radio shack sells contact cleaner. If that fails, try a pencil eraser. If that does not work, use sandpaper or a wire brush. But make sure to coat the entire surface with the grease, regardless the method.

finally got around to opening up the door pad/switch and all of the contacts were slightly corroded. this is extremely easy to do like it is stated in the prior threads, yes these swithes are very inexpensive (which is a bit of a shock) but if you know how to work a screwdriver you don't need to buy a new switch.

this is probably a stupid question but can I use plain grease like the kind that's in my grease gun for ball joints etc?? or does it have to be di-electric?
