2005 Radio Problem
What is your thought on this. I took a 2005 coupe 3Lt with navigation to the local Chevy dealer for an airbag light. They called and said the problem was in the BCM and that the BCM in the car had the wrong VIN# in it. They replaced the BCM and called to say the car is done.
I get the car back and this is the problem. The nav works, the radio works on AM or FM but it is locked on XM. Both XM1/XM2 are locked. They worked before.
I take the car back and tell the service writer about the problem. He calls today and says we can't unlock it you need a new radio unit. He said GM told them to do a global disconnect and it might reset or replace the unit.
First of all I've never heard of the BCM causing the seat belt light to come. It's common for that to happen but it almost always ends up being either a loose plug (the yellow one) under the seat or a bad seat belt tensioner.
I don't get what you mean by XM is "locked". The HU probably just needs to be reprogrammed to the car. I'd go to another dealer.

It wasn't the seatbelt light it was the air bag light on. When you switch the radio from either am or fm to the XM band at the top of the display screen it says XM LOCKED
I meant air bag light. My mistake.
I still would take it to another dealer and see if they can reprogram it to the car. It may be programmed into the BCM and if that was changed the radio will need to be reprogrammed. This is only a guess.
