My 05 Z51 had never shifted very smoothly, trouble engaging gears, missing shifts etc. Last summer I installed a new MGW shifter hoping this would solve the problem and it did somewhat but still did not provide the performance I was expecting. Not too long ago they came out with a lower box which I installed last weekend and finally got the shifting I was looking for. So a recommendation from me if you are considering changing your shifter change the lower unit also, its well worth the extra dollars and effort.
I just ordered one , not sure why other than how wonderful everyone said it works. i'm not sure how it will be better than stock, guess I will find out soon

I hope that you ordered the lower box as well. It is well worth it.
I had an older model of the MGW shifter and it was better then stock for sure. But I always like to try the latest and greatest so I got he newest MGW shifter and the lower box and installed them myself a few weeks ago. It is even better than the older version with the new box.

You will love the shorter throw....and yes more possitive input is needed.
Another benefit of changing that oem lower box out, other than smoother shifting is the additional heat shielding that comes with it, I have noticed a difference in tunnel heat since its install. I insulated quite a bit when I put the upper in but removing the lower provided more access for insulation.
^^^For all practical purpose, heat shielding is a different situation, with or without the MGW lower box. Although I have one also. Additional always helps, especially with DEI type aluminum over fiber insulation and adhesive lined. Dynamat in the kit is actually an sound insulator and the black foam type sheet is the insulation material.
Back in 2010, during my first install with the second generation MGW, I went ahead and installed addition DEI heat shields. In particular, under the radio bezel, over the thick black oem foam, directly under the oem cup holder base and removed the arm console, did the same underneath. DEI type are long lasting and effective heat insulation even when direct contact with an heat source.
Case in point:
Made shields for air intake over the hot coolant hose, battery and fuse box, purposely left top open so as not to trap heat:
are your heat socks around your plugs worthwhile, are you happy with them. Getting pfadt headers july 2nd, just wondering if it's a must have, should have or could have.

I never did one actual before and after on the spot thermo reading.
Since I bought them at a special 1/2 price offer and they don't add weight. So I said-what the heck everything needs a little help!
