Default Tranny Fluid change Question.

My Z06 currently has 40K miles on it. Never raced or tracked. Now I'm looking to swap my GM oil for Amsoil. Question I wanted to ask is, do I or should I change the tranny filter? Or just drain and refill?

But if you did have a filter, such as the A6, then I would replace the filter any way.

Under no circumstances make the mistake of using DEXRON-6 ATF as that is to be used for A6 autos only. Use an ATF in the manual tranny that is equivalent to the old DEXRON-3.

The AMSOIL Torque Drive ATF is an excellent replacement fluid.

I recommend forum member SUBDRIVER if you cant get it locally.

Thanks for the mention Bill and Johnny - sorry for the slow addition to the thread. Was at Watkins Glen without internet all last week and been playing catchup with work and life all this week.

Concur with the above - no filter in manual, just drain and fill, and use a fluid meeting now superseded Dexron III specification (do not use Dexron VI).

AMSOIL recommends and I use in my T56 (C5 Z06 Tremec tranny) at the track:
AMSOIL Torque-Drive Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid (Product Code ATD1G)

More than happy to get AMSOIL products for forum members at dealer wholesale pricing, about 25% below retail, via the AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program. Drop me a PM if interested.
