Default Clutch sticking

Sometimes Clutch only comes back up halfway maybe 3/4 and stays there until I pull it back up with top of my foot. Doesn't slip though. Any ideas why or how to fix it. Stock clutch 2008 c6 coupe 673hp 617tq to wheels.

It is likely dirty fluid. Very easy procedure to cure the problem. Read all about it over here: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...-and-cure.html

suck out the fluid (turkey baster, fluid extractor, etc)
put new fluid in, try to avoid shaking new fluid and getting air bubbles in it, if so, let it sit before pouring in
pump pedal a few times
repeat till the res doesn't look all ickey

did that on a friends car and much better

while you're at it, do it to the brake master cyl as well

At your power level, swapping the fluid is only going to get you so far and you would need to do it very often as I'm sure you are creating a lot more dust and heat with almost double stock power. I would definitely look into an aftermarket clutch that would match your power and I think you will be a lot happier. Let me know if you have any questions about a Monster.

I was hoping there was something I could do besides replacing the whole clutch. Is it the clutch or the master and slave that aren't holding up. The clutch doesn't slip when it happens.

The reality is you need a good aftermarket twin disk. Changing the fluid is a temporary band aid at that power level. I'll be switching from my current one to a Mantic 9000 soon.

Maybe it isn't full on slipping as in free wheeling and bouncing off the limiter while not going anywhere, but the extra heat from all the power you're making is weakening the diaphragm springs and that's why the pedal is sinking. With a plateload of ~2400lbs an LS7 clutch shouldn't even hold the power you're making, just saying. Not sure how much people think these clutches are designed to hold, by calculations on paper our Level 1 clutch holds 100 ftlbs more than a LS7 lol

I've had this happen at the track on a very hot day. Before you start ripping things apart, make sure you have done all of the basics: 1) check for a broken pedal return spring, 2) check for leaks at the slave below the reservoir, and 3) check to make sure your fluid level is not over filled or 4) under filled. Any of these can cause the condition you are experiencing. If all is good, next perform the Ranger fluid change method with a reasonable quality DOT 4 synthetic fluid.

If it is still not fixed, I would next begin suspecting that one or more of the pressure plate springs have weakened/failed - not so easy of a job to fix.

My issue was a slight overfill and when the fluid became very hot it couldn't return all of the fluid back into the reservoir quickly enough. Sucked out a fat tablespoon and it corrected itself.

Good luck!
