What is a stall converter and what is its' function ? I am doing mods at the moment, headers, fast intake, tune. How do you figure out what size to get? Bat Pig out.

Try asking your question in general corvette and then drop window " drag racing"

A stall converter is only for an "AUTOMATIC" car....if your car an automatic (A6) or if its an 05 its an (A4) transmission..
A stall converter allows you to come to a full STOP with no clutch (all automatic cars have them)
The one that came from the factory in your car is (a guess) about 1600 RPM.. it will permit your engine to rev to 1600 if you floor it and will climb from there..
You can buy an aftermarket converter from 2400 all the way to 5000..
How are you going to use your car (Drag Race, Road Race, AutoX) or just want a little more pep on the street... There is a LOT more you have to think about when buying c converter. (what stall you want and NEED..
I drag race and have a 2800 converter, Headers, intake, and a Tune..
You should also get a trans fluid cooler if you get a hi stall converter..

Ditto!!! but in my general experience with automatic transmission stall converters I would go with a "proven brand" and at least a 2800 to 3200 rpm "rated" stall speed for the street and higher for the track i.e. 3600/4000 rpm, or else in the long run you may feel that you wasted your money by not going higher on the stall speed in the first place; a 3800 for putting down some good drag strip numbers looks good to me. The track ones (street manners) from what I have read on here because I am still running the stock converter in my"first" Corvette ever is why "I" would just do the track stall speed from the get-go if I were to install one.
If you want your transmission to "LIVE" and I know you do! than add in a medium size transmission cooler in series/with the one that is already in the car for more cooling capacity. I have found that the plate style coolers to perform the best and physically strongest in my years of experience. I could stand on my plate style cooler with one foot on a flat surface and not hurt it at all.
PS: I have a 9 second V6 with air, etc. "street Buick" with a 3600 rpm rated stall converter that feels like factory in everyday street driving to me.
