Anyone else have gnarly chatter on their stage 5 clutch? I know this is effectively a race clutch but damn! It chatters so hard the entire car shakes, and then if I try to let it out quickly it chirps the tires over!
If this is normal than I'm going to have to come down a stage or two, or switch to a different manufacturer. Anyone have any recommendations? Running right at 650RWHP.
Don't have a 5 but did install a 3 and had to do a number of hard starts on it that cooked the clutch slightly to break it in. No problem after it got bedded into the flywheel.
I put a monster level 3 in my GTO. The most excitement I to out of it was chirping the tires going into fourth. It was definitely a clutch designed for handling big power. Like pkincy said, you'll have to do a fair amount of break in. Also might want to hit the gym because your left leg is going to be bigger than your right before long lol. At the end of the day, I wouldn't recommend that clutch for day to day driving.
You can't slip those clutches like you do the stock clutch, that's what starts the chattering. Either get used to the chattering/tire chirp or buy a different clutch.
This is the same clutch we have in our 1200hp Camaro. my first day @ MTI the boss threw me the keys, and the clutch blew my mind. I thought it had a stock clutch!!
My Spec Super Twin carbon was the same way. I was ready to pull it out the first day. After a long break in period it came around. Seems after some heavy slipping the better it got. It's not anywhere near stock but I've got a handle on it.
Have a Stage 3, it took about 2300 miles before it stopped chattering. I can now slip almost as easy as the stock unit. I literally hated it for the first 2 months after the install. I did the research on this forum and several others, opinions vary vastly. I am glad I kept my patiences, love it now. M2cnt
There are some things that can cause excessive chatter, feel free to give me a call and we can discuss different driving techniques over the phone as I think it would be easier. We have a lady we installed one in her Gen5 Camaro and daily drives it with no complaints fwiw. It's definitely not a race clutch as it's only 8% stiffer bearing load(ie pedal effort) than stock. We offer twin disc clutches that would be more comparable to the other clutches mentioned, which aren't a fair comparison to a single that can hold the same.

Sure thing Chris... I'll give you a ring this afternoon!
Just a quick update for everyone... I took the car to the shop for a motor replacement and during the process we found what was causing the chatter. 2 of the bolts on the Torque Tube had come loose and it was recessed back about 2 inches almost!
Unfortunately I had already ordered a Macleod in preparation so I don't know how smooth the Monster would be now. I'm assured though that the majority of the chatter came from my issue and not the actual clutch itself. Wanted to clear that up in case anyone ever came across this thread in search for a Monster clutch.

Wow, glad you caught it before it became catastrophic! Thanks for taking the time to update, if you don't mind updating the title as well I'd appreciate it as not everyone looks through the entire thread.
