Default Which Code Scanner?

Hello All,

I'm new here (previously from the C5 forum), just got a 2011 C6 vert. Just wanted to say hello and ask which code scanner should I get? No problems or issues with the car currently. Just want to be prepared. Thanks for any advice.

Tim

Depends on how serious you want to get and how much you want to spend.

The Actron brand scanners seem to be the most common and readily available at most auto parts stores and tool places (like Sears). Check out the Actron website for details. You can get a very basic one for around $30, then move on up in capability and price from there. The basic ones only give you a code number, then you have to research what the code is/means via a usually included book or via the internet. The more advanced ones give you the code and plain text meanings but you still have to do some research for more detail if you want it. Then the real advanced ones do things like real time data logging which is important for tuning or forced induction apps.

Keep in mind few of the handhelds read things like airbag codes, ABS codes and GM specific codes which may or may not be important to you.
