So we pulled the rear diff from my friends 2007 C6 non-Z51 coupe. The car has about 80k on it. We initially started to replace the output shaft seal due to a leak. When we drained the fluid we found big chunks of aluminum. What we found inside was that one of the posi unit bolts had backed out and caused carnage in the rear. The car was still operating perfectly though.
We are in desparate need for a complete 3.42 rear to put back in the car as this one appears beyond repair.
Yep, a bolt backed out, then contacted the case. We couldn't believe it didn't grenade itself. The car was running fine. It destroyed the inside of the case. I can only assume a manufacturing defect or improperly torqued bolt. The car has never been apart prior to this.
