I have an 08 vert, six speed with about 45K miles. Recently started hearing a high pitched whine from back of car. Took it to the dealer, they also heard the noise and said it was the fuel pump. But recommended I ignore it, because, according to them, it was highly unlikely it would fail anyway.
I was wondering if anyone as had the issue and what you did. Also, any thoughts on the dealers recommendation?
Thanks,
Jim
PS: They said this is a very expensive fix.
I'd replace the pump. If you are out of warranty, I would find a local shop to drop the driver's side tank and replace the pump with the aeromotive 340 stealth pump. That's what I use with my setup and it works great. The dealer is going to hit you with a ton of labor to drop the tank. It can be done cheaper than they quote and less time. You don't need to remove the rear to get at the tank on the M6.
A squealing fuel pump is a dieing fuel pump and I'd rather fix it than have the POS fail on the highway somewhere while I have the wife in the car.
