Default Door adjustment

Guys,

My driver's door is sagging and is hitting the latch on the door jam. Any tutorials out there on how to adjust the hinges?

Thanks,

Ric

I'd like to know how too. My passenger door is doing the same thing. I can see it drop about 1/4" when I open it and sometimes it has trouble releasing when opening it.

I'd check around the front hinges first. The door might be cracked. A common occurrence when door is overextended when car is pointed downhill, high winds, etc. Push door a little past the stop and it'd be obvious if it's cracked. It's rare that they just sag for no reason, but hope I'm wrong. Good luck.

My car is six years old and no signs of either door "sagging". I think the advice of checking the hinges is a good starting place. I think I'll check my door hinge fasteners tomorrow to make sure none of them have loosened up.

I am aving a similar issue and am leaning toward a "re-alingment" issue. I have read a bit about this and am now wondering if use of the door as a "Grab Handle Assist" when exiting the car can cause things to shift over time.

I have had one reply to my post suggest a cracked hinge but most suggest re-alignment.

If there is a crack, it is more likely to be the door structure itself, rather than the metal hinge. Also, the windshield frame structure that the hinges are bolted to is very strong. That area will not crack.

My door just needs adjustment. It isn't cracked. Anyone?

When I worked at a body shop long ago, we would open the door about a foot or so and use a hydraulic jack under it to hold it. Then loosen the bolts that bolt the hinge to the car, then gently push the door up a bit with the jack, then tighten bolts.

This is out of the manual. Good luck.

Shoot me a PM with your email and I'll send the PDF file. I can't figure out how to load a PDF as an image and converting reduces quality.
