On my way to work this cool 62* morning, and my coolant temp hit 210. I have had a blower on the car since July and the highest I have ever seen was 207* during the summer. The fan does not come on at all, even with the AC running. No codes or CEL. All of the cooling system is stock btw...
After searching, I found some instances where connectors had melted. I looked at the connector that attaches to the radiator on the passenger side, and the connector going into the pwm controller. Both looked fine, and not melted. I did pull them apart to see the terminals and everything looks clean. The 60 amp fuse is not blown.
Without a voltmeter/multimeter, how would one begin to diagnose this?
If it turns out to be the controller itself, what is holding it to the fan housing? is it a bolt or some type of push pin? I don't see how one would get any type of tool to remove a bolt going to it.
I drive this daily, but I am at the point where I feel like buying a $2500 POS for point A to B.
210° is not abnormal at all. I've noticed my fan doesnt come on either when the outside temp starts getting colder even with the AC on. I thought the same thing last fall when my temps got a little higher and I never heard the fan come on. I was under the car checking all the connectors and couldnt find anything wrong. As soon as it started getting warmer outside the fan started coming on again. Dont worry about it. If you see engine temps getting into the 230s then worry about it.
you need to invest in a volt meter. you need to check to see if you have voltage getting to the fan. a fuse may look good and be bad, the relay can also have gone bad, but until you know voltage is getting through everything is a guess.
until then turn the ac on and see if the fan comes on.
Ran the ac last night and today. Fan is not coming on at all. Usually by 200* you can definitely tell its running.
I live in Houston, maybe its just me, but I think our summers are pretty hot.
Time to buy a multimeter.
I'm guessing your tuner set the fans to come on early. Check with him as to the temps and fan percentages he set. Hopefully he didn't set anything over 90% at any temps.
Yes on the multimeter. First item to check is continuity on the three wires of that connector.
Trying to find out what the fans were set at now. After looking at the connectors, and not seeing any visual indicators I took it to my local dealership this morning. I just got a call from them saying that they could not command the fan to run with a tech 2. They also said since the car has modifications, they are not going to look any further into the problem.
Since the fan would not run via tech 2, does that mean I do indeed have an issue?
