Default Coolant temperature

08 C6A/Z51.I have a small comp cam, headers & tune.My question is what is the Sweet Point for the coolant temp to run at? I've heard from engine builders that 195 degrees is in the ball park.??

There is no sweet point. Too many variables. Temperature is relevant to what mods have been done and to the relative ambient temperature.

My car is pretty much always constantly changing between about 185* to 205* based on whether or not I am running the fans and if it is city or hwy driving. At the worst of times It'll approach 220* in the blistering heat and bumper to bumper traffic.

I'm cammed and running A&A supercharger kit.

I like to run at 180. Ambient pretty much dictates where mine runs. The mfg run 195 to get lower emissions.

From a performance perspective, the sweet spot is that area of the tune where timing is neither added or removed due to the temperature of the EOC.

Put a 160 stat in.
50% coolant.
50% distilled water.
Bottle of water wetter.

I am in Fl. This set up keeps me at 180 driving.
never over 200 at lights.

A 160 stat keeps me at 180-185 when the ambient temps are consistantly below 90, like between mid-Oct and late April. After 90 or in heavy traffic, my temps start to go higher, whether I like it or not.

Have you had your fan command to come on sooner then 225 degrees?

Let's change Sweet Point" to Engine temp..I know about the ambient temp,I just live up the road from you. We've had many days in the high 90's or 100 +.I called the shop here in Texas that did the work on my car and he said 195 to around 200 degrees. He has my fan to come on at 40% at 195 degrees and 70 % at 203 degrees. And what i meant in my post was intown driving ONLY.Thanks.

Without early fans in Phoenix summer traffic, engine temps get too high too fast and don't get a chance to cool below 225. Official high at the airport was 118 this year, but street temps went well over 120.

The DIC generally reads around 15 +/- degrees higher than the stat assuming the ambient air is around room temps and the car is moving at highway speeds.

Your fan is running all the time, which is what you need in the HOT" summer months..I used to go to the river at Parker AZ & it will be 117 degrees in the shade, but it is a dry heat.Down here we get a lot of humidity at times.Sucks"...Thanks for the info on your fan setting...
