My bro had my car for a couple of weeks and returned it the other day with a 3rd gear missing. According to him, and I have reason to believe him, he did not do anything special or extreme. Actually he really couldn't have as I incidently disconnected the traction control button so the traction is always on, kinda makes it impossible to even make a donut.
A friend of mine, corvette owner/specialist told the this is a common problem with the A4 on C6, often failing in 3rd or 4th gear, kind of a weakspot.
Any of you guys had this? Cost of repair and your particular case?
Your friend is correct. The 3-4 clutch failure is fairly common in stock 4L60e transmissions. If 3rd gear is gone 4th is too. I recommend an upgraded replacement transmission. We can build you an upgraded unit that will last much longer than the stock transmission. Our Level 5 transmission is $2,395.00 with your core exchange plus shipping. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
also the solenoids often get stuck or clogged from aluminum fragments from a mis- machined case, you should have a code that can be read at the dealer with a techII, there was a TSB and they will change the whole pack, even the trans if still under some warranty, you can try disconnecting the battery and then try again to see if it shifts
Jeremy thanks for your answer and proposal, I'm in Bulgaria so it's quite difficult to do a replacement due to logistics and costs involved.
Dennis, the oil is black, which as I was told is is indication that indeed the clutches of 3-4 gear have burnt, or something like that. I seem to have 4th gear, if I accelerate enough on 1-2 to skip directly to 4 or passing through 3rd.
Only on 3rd gear it's like I'm on neutral, I can rev the engine with zero effect.

We ship all over the world. If you would like to PM me your address I can see what shipping would be to you.
With black, burnt fluid it is definitely time for a rebuild/replacement.
Once the filter gets completely clogged with debris from whatever parts gave up, the trans will not run at all....don't go driving around or you may get stuck somewhere.
