I was wondering of anyone could tell me the difference between the CoW and Pfadt tunes. I've been reading and it seems that CoW seems to be the dominant tuner on this site. But being the person that I am i always like ti shop and compare. I have asked questions in the forum but have not had answers. Most seem to like the cow tunes. What are my options? They both seem to offer a Trans Tune for the A6 and from what I read chuck charges for it and pfadt does not. Do we have any pros or cons for either? There are a couple of local tuners in my area however not being "up" on this tuning stuff I am looking to acquire knowledge.
Pfadts tuning is relatively new so youre not likely to get replies, but theres a guy in richmond that tunes our cars: http://www.tunedbyfrost.com/
or you could try Ed Hutchings in Chesapeake (hes also a forum member edcmat-l1)
Unless you live in an area where there are no qualified LS tuners within driving distance, I would ALWAYS opt for a local tuner. Although good tuners can offer a pretty accurate generic mail order tune for a basic bolt-ons car, being able to fine tune your car in person on the dyno and street is invaluable. Plus it's so much easier if you have to go back to them for adjustments and/or issues.
I've heard nothing but GOOD about CoW.. however I have my tuning done at Cartek, only because I am an "avid Drag Racer" and to the best of my knowledge CoW tunes best for "STREET DRIVEN" cars... and Cartek is more of a "HARD CORE DRAG RACE SHOP"
I'm sure Chuck could put in a tune to get you better ET. but I have been going to Cartek since 1999..
I know CoW does travel to do tunes, and there is only so much he can do via a Mail Tune...see when he will be in your area.. or take a drive up this way...
Unless you plan on doing "competitive" drag racing you can't go wrong with either of them.. or for that matter a tuner closer to where you live...

While It's inappropriate for me to comment on other forum tuners, I think it's safe to say that
you should stick with someone who has been at it for like 15 years rather than someone that's
been doing it for 6 months.
Reading the op's post, I saw something that I wanted to correct. We do not charge for A6 tunes separately.
We tune the engine and trans for the same price as if you were a stick.
We also offer the CoW BOOSTER! which is amazing and can not be beat. I have not tuned a car in
6 months that di not get the CoW BOOSTER! option. It's that good.
Also, you might want to look at our Christmas special on the forum and we've got a generous
deal going on right now.
Or, feel free to contact me any time at 914-332-0049.

When available, local good tuner is my #2 choice.
My first choice would be a tuning package that I could roll my own, without having to pay for a set/each/group, or what ever. Like Dynojet or Bazzaz for bikes.
Choice #3: remote packages.

They are just two different companies offering tuning - kind of like comparing one header to the next, they're after similar results but have different ways of going about it.
I'd suggest a local tuner first, but if you have to go the mail order route, we also offer it as well!

Since when we can hear anything "Bad" on any tuner/vendor?
But keeping my eyes open, I have been able to filtered the cry baby types that sugar coats and fool the unsuspected - entertaining really!
One thing for sure is to be wide awake when seeing the wild exaggerations and colorful claims.

You Tuned my Z28 a couple if years ago, Dark Blue, had to tune out the knock sensors because they did not get replaced when the top end was done, don't know if you remember.

The tuners mentioned above are two of the very best in the country. If they are close to you, you have it made!

Most negative comments are made by private message, e-mail and word of mouth at track rentals & etc. Those of us who actually drag race & etc......... know through experience both the good as well as the bad.
Those of us who are "gear heads" know because we have turned wrenches ourselves over the years. The key for any CF member is to determine if the individual who is providing a reference is one of the above.
btw you do know that "seat of the pants" is useless in determining if a car is fast
^^^Big talking before "racing" with the turn key rebuilt! Hmmmm....
I have just enough honed skills to marginally satisfy my motor sport toys modifications without relying on others.
Don't need time-slips to prove anything, since I have no need to that type of go fast for thrills!
And my having fun is not limited by a budget.

Now, back to the subject in regards to Op's question in regards to tuning shop. My post was: Be careful, in other words- When comes to tuning shop - was there a "Ca*eron" fiasco?!!?
Seat of pants! I am just a retired, don't know much local in the middle of the Pacific and not qualify as a "gear head" type. - What do I know, right?

Yea, Tommy, lots of hobbies, I am everywhere!
Lurking here for years then decided to join back in '10 so I can "upgrade" my lowly '05 with used parts. Especially lately after the '14 model year came out! Parts are for the picking!
Sometime I even spent money in order to learn a little more, for example, to set up the the guy up to Westchester, I bought the EFI package (Since I want to get into EFI) and the mail tune, just to see what the hype was all about. Guess what: Read that tune, had enough already, never go through the "BS follow up" and after, it is sitting on my shelf for laughs.
All kinds out there, but the web is indeed a fun thing.
