Default Rotors for track use?

I've been looking for rotors that will hold up reasonably well at the track with moderate to heavy braking, but are reasonably priced. I've been using Hawk HP+ pads on OEM Z51 rotors and they work ok, but they don't seem to be able to take the heat.

Anyone have any experience running the Hawk brand rotors? I've not found any reviews about them on the forum.

Thanks!

No experience here. I have read you just want slotted rotors. The cross drilled rotors will crack from the heat.

You will probably find it helpful to install cooling ducts for the front wheels. There are a couple of forum vendors that sell them.

I don't like the drilled rotors, the holes in mine fill up with brake dust within the first couple of sessions.

I would definitely look into cooling ducts. On the rotor side I would look into the Centric premium rotors they are solid plain face and seem to hold up well and are priced right. On a side note when the HP+ is done you may want to go with Carbotech XP10 front and XP8 rear they will be a lot easier on rotors than the HP+ with a lot better performance.

A couple of local track rats use base rotors and real aggressive pads. They kill the rotors rather quickly, but they work great in the meantime and they're cheap to replace. Sometimes even free from people who have gone to big brake systems.
Those guys consider rotors as the same type of expendables as the far more expensive tires. Of course, they change their tires, wheels, rotors, pads, and harness back to everyday stuff between track days.

Your pads are the problem, not the rotors. When worn out get $40-50 rotors and higher temp pads. Carbotech is a great choice. The XP10s provide excellent wear and can even be run on the street without problems. The XP12s and above provide higher temp tolerance (increased braking) but increase rotor wear.

With whatever pads you choose bed them, especially with new rotors, to heat cycle the rotors before going to the track. You'll get much better wear and they're less prone to cracking.

I have 04 ZO6 with the conversion to using the front brakes on the rear. Anyway I just use NAPA rotors and plan on destroying them. Which I do. I always bed in new rotors and new pads. I use Hawk DTC 70 front and HT 10 pads rear. I have cooling ducts straight to calipers. I use Castrol SRF brake fluid. I bleed brakes before every event.

Think of rotors the same as pads.

If going fast they will crack and wear out just like pads.

Need spindle ducts on track but I am going back to stock rotors as the expensive ones seem to crack just as fast.

I have tried to work with those pads on my z51 ls3 c6 , no luck, they are fine but not aggressive enough for a c6 doing laps. Move to a higher temp more race compound pad and cheap cyro rotors, better brake lines and sfr or motul 600 min. I have boiled my fluid two times with those pads and they were not great track days as far as feeling like i drove well.

I put DBA slotted rotors and Carbotech XP10 pads on mine and it was a huge improvement over the stock brakes when I've run at Daytona and Sebring about 3 times a year. I leave the XP10's on, dusty and can be noisy but tolerable. I also did stainless steel brake lines and use motul RBF 600 fluid. Haven't installed any brake ducts yet and for the HPDE's I do, it all works fine.
