Default Z06 Brake Conversion

Has any one who has done this conversion on a base had the issue with the brake lines not fitting the stock brake line fittings and the install to be a complete pain in the ***? I had to go out and buy new fittings for the brake lines cut the old ones off and redo my brake lines. I almost had to put new brake lines on my car and I only did the rear. I have to wait for my jack pucks to get in to do the front.

Next time use a Thread File to clean the threads. It seems that more than a few line-to-hose connections were tighten by Superman and buggered the threads.

You don't need jacking pucks to jack up the car, on either end

I was thinking the same thing so I took both the stock line and the goodridge line to an auto parts store and had that check. They were two completely different thread patterns. I cant remember what stock was but the new lines were 3/16th. My lines were brand new in box with z06 on the box. It was a nightmare but got the rears on and now not looking forward to doing the front.

Did you buy the car used? If so, you have no clue what the previous owner/s did.

They may have changed the lines to something else.

Yep im the 6th owner. if that is the case then why do the stock brake lines fit the fittings on the lines?

Are you using Z06 lines?

If not are the Z06 brakes and lines new? If not, maybe the previous owner did something that is causing you pain.

I am not a fan of Z06 brakes, so I bought Wilwoods and everything fit fine.

They are Z06 brakes and Z06 lines. Lines brand new and the brakes have about 1500 miles on them.

the rears are on and good to go now, but had to put the new fittings on the lines. and had to re-bend one of the hard lines to get the fitting to get far enough back to get the flare tool on the line so i didn't have to put a whole new hard line on. only took like 9 hours to do just the rears lol

I also used Goodridge ZO6 lines with no problems, maybe you got the wrong lines from Goodridge?

Hi;

I did a conversion of a 2005 Z51 car using 2008 Z06 stock brakes and lines. My Z51 car has 18" fronts and 19" rears. The 18" fronts are needed to clear the Z06 calipers.

Brake line fittings fit perfectly ... a little cramped in terms of wrenching, but otherwise I didn't encounter any thread-mismatch issues between the Z51 and Z06.

You will need Z06 rotors. Z06 rotors are larger diameter than stock rotors or Z51 rotors. Take care to find the right size Z06 rotors (355mm front, 340 mm rear) ... I found a lot of vendors sell "Z06" rotors ... but their diameters are smaller than true Z06 rotors.

One other thing ... be careful of wheel hub offsets. I had to build 1/8" spacers for my rears because they didnt quite have enough spoke offset to clear the Z06 calipers (even though they are 19" wheels. Wheels designed for a base C6 or C5 may not have spoke designs that can clear the additional thickness of the Z06 caliper (i.e. there is more to consider here than just the wheel rim diameter).

The base corvette, Z51 corvette and Z06 share the same wheel bearing brackets ... so there are no changes required or brackets to change .... the various GM stock C6 calipers simply bolt in (i.e. the caliper itself accommodates the different rotor diameters).

Good luck.

Im running ZR1 wheels so thats not an issue and the brakes are OEM Z06 brakes and rotors off a 09 Z06. I dont know what the issue is.

I had the same problem when putting ZO6 brakes and lines on my '05. Had to re-shape the threads on the brake lines with a file to make them work. Over tightening at the manufacturer/factory was thought to be the problem.

I thought that may had been the issue at first, that's why I took both the stock line and new line to have the treads checked and were two completely different thread patterns
