Looking for some advice, i have a 2007 6.0 with 35000 miles on it and i have already replace all my belts about 10000 miles ago. Yesterday my belts started squeling again and when i was looking at the balancer it seemed to have a little woble, not much. My question is, is it bad or going bad? And if i need to replace it what should i replace it with? I know ATI is good but the cost is a little high. I was thinking more about SLP HB/underdrive? Thanks for the help.
I just finished replacing the balancer on my 2006 C6. I went with the ATI part. I know it's expensive, but ATI sometimes sells BLEMs (cosmetic blemishes only. They are brand new and fully functional) of their balancers on eBay for much cheaper. Right now they are selling one that would work for you for $220 instead of $430 or so. Check it out.
Here is the ARP bolt I ordered when I had mine replaced...

The cheap route would be to pick up a Dorman OEM balancer (there only $80-$90 bucks at AZ) and an ARP 234-2503 crank bolt. Good to go.
Also often times switching to a goodyear gator back belt will stop the belt noise. Those Gator back belts are almost impossible to get a sound out of.
I have the Powerbond 25% unit (same as the SLP) on my heads/cam LS2. I pinned the crank and used the ARP bolt when I installed it. Fits great and works great. I replaced the stock unit with this one at the first sign of wobble.
A little wobble is normal, because the only parts on the stock balancer that are precisely machined are mountings and the groove for the belt. The faces and "inner circle" can have wobble that doesn't mean anything, but of course they are the part you can see and will help you notice that things need checking.
There is a GM bulletin that calls for removing the belt and using a dial indicator to check the runout in the belt groove, but I don't have a copy available.
does anyone have overheating or charging issues running a ud balancer?
I've heard of a few problems, but don't remember the details.
To me, the small increase in power does not seem to justify the potential problems. GM built the system like they did, after a lot of testing. I'm sure they would have been happy to brag about more HP and better MPG, if they thought it was a good idea.

Thanks to everyone for all the good help and advice. I am definitely going with new gatorbelts this week for a start. And while I am doing that i will check the wobbly with the belts off. As for the ATI if they are still available the end of the month, I try will get one for that price. Thanks again.
Mine started to have a slight wobble at 47k miles, gradually got worse. Started chirping and then finally a steady squeal. I switched to a stock size Powerbond and it's been perfect. If you have ever wanted to do a cam, this is also the time.
