Default Z06 calipers question...

Hello all,

Does anyone know if the Z06 calipers are directional and specific by side? Meaning- are the front the same on both sides, and a right will fit the left and vise versa if you swap the bleeders and bypass tubes?

Same question for the rears...

Or are they specific (RF, LF, RR, LR)

Thanks!

I guess that is the reason why Z06 brakes don't work as good a aftermarket brakes. If you look at Wilwood, Stoptech, etc, they have 3 different size pistons and are corner specific.

One of the reasons....but even those calipers can physically be changed by flipping the cross over and bleeder locations on the calipers.

OEM took some cost cutting measures by making all of the pistons the same size so that reduces machine time and also part cost by using one part for the piston, seal, and dust boot. This is, however, one of the reasons why they have such a problem with pad taper. The staggard piston sizes are there to cut back on pad taper and give you a more even applied pressure to the rotor.

There are other things than that...but to answer your question if you completely stripped a StopTech or Wilwood down to nothing you could install it upside down if you didn't know the orientation of the pistons.

Anthony,

I have not looked at the C7 brakes yet, but the story I got as to why GM used the junk brakes from Australia was because Dave Hill did not like the Brembo organization so he used these instead and since the ZR1 came out after he was gone, they got Brembos.

I can not speak for why GM did what they did but generally it is because of some long standing contract with a supplier or union.

As for the Brembo's on the C7....so far, yes they seem like a better brake than the PBR units but that isn't hard to do. People are still having issues with them for track use so it didn't solve everything but remember it is still a OEM street car brake setup, not something that is going to stop and F1 car for laps on end at the track so yes they is still a need and a demand for track brakes for the cars.

The one nice thing it did however, is force GM to give you a stock wheel that will actually fit some sort of upgraded brake system unlike the stock base C6's.
