Default AC Troubleshooting Help

i'm trying to find a leak in my AC. There is no charge at all in the system right now (it all leaked out) and has been that way since last summer. what is the proper procedure to put dye in the system if there is 0 pressure in the system. if there is a leak somewhere do i bother evacuating the system first, or just add refrigerant and dye and hope to find it before it all leaks out again?

also, ive done all kinds of searches and cannot find any info on C6 and accumulators/dryers. Does the C6 have one, where is it, part nr? Thanks for any info. - mark

Hello I would pressurize the system with dry nitrogen and listen for the big leaks or use soap and water on the joints. Another way is add a little refrigerant with the nitrogen then use a refrigerant detector. I would use about 75 to 100 psi of nitrogen you could start with even 50 and work your way up if needed

Thanks for the reply, vettedreamer. So what I need to do is pressurize the system with something in order to find the leak? This may be a stupid question, but what if I've got a tank of tri-mix welding gas - could I use that ( I think it's Ar, Co2, O2?) at the same time I could add dye through the gauge manifold hose. Is there any reason you suggested N?

If you've lost all refrigerant you should be able to find the leak by looking for huge oil spot.
