Need some help with determining the source of the problems with my 2005 Manual transmission Vette.
My Vette Dealership is at his wits end, and I'm hoping all the techs out in the forum can help.
The Vette itself, when parked and placed in reverse will shut down (engine off), but all remaining electronics remain on, and the cars diagnostics display reads "Place car in reverse" (Accept that the car is already in reverse) - and ultimately a dead battery.
The Vette tech first thought it was the battery (aftermarket) - no fix; swapped out the ECM and BCM - no fix; swapped out the Fuse Grid - No fix; they've run power through the fuses to try and determine where the drain may be (loose wire, cut wire or loose ground) - no fix.
There was a reflash for the computer so that it was no longer necessary to put it in reverse to shut down. Tell them to check on that. Aside from doing that it sounds to me like a microswitch or something in the shifter is not sensing when the shifter is in reverse.
It seems the ECM thinks the car is not in reverse. Do the reverse lights come on when the car is in reverse? I don't know if the ECM and the reverse lights use the same signal. Based on the display message it seems whatever tells the ECM the car is in reverse is not functioning.
Brighter minds than mine may be able to tell you how the ECM gets the signal from the trans.
We never established what "switch" was replaced. It implies a simple "reverse light switch" but the text the OP wrote says "reverse INPUT switch". To me, that means the switch that's mounted on the '05 M6 trans, there are 2 of them, not the basic rev light switch most of us think of.
Thanks Rick T, I forwarded the information you'd provided onto the dealership that is "trying" to fix the Vette. They were not aware of this potential fix, and have ordered the identified parts.
I went through the same problem with my 05. First the manual transmission has to be in reverse. There is a sensor that tells the computer the car is in reverse. If the sensor is bad, the computer stays up and will kil the battery in an hour. My chevy dealer told me they now have an upgrader sensor. I bought a new battery and a trickle charger. no problems now for a year
