Starter question
Replaced my starter about a month ago with a AutoZone Duralast starter. Since then I have experienced 3 different scenarios -
1) When I push the start button, I hear a "clunk" and nothing further. Engine is not turned over yet all power stays on - much like when the button is pushed, a single shot of juice is sent to the starter and either that works or it doesnt. The starter motor does not continuously try to turn the engine over.
2) Hear a clunk - engine immediately turns over and starts as usual
3) No clunk - engine turns over and starts as it should
Each scenario happens about the same frequency. If # 1, repeated attempts do work to start the car... My personal opinion - It seems almost as though there is a bit of a gap between the teeth on the starter and those on the flywheel - but I have no proof or any other ideas. All connections were good and tight. I have pulled the starter off to replace it again but want some expert input as to what I should be looking for if it WASNT the starter...
