Default Hatch not closing

It has been intermittent for while now. I've tried everything I've seen in related threads, windows up/down, doors open/closed, slam/gentle. I'm pretty sure I don't hear the motor even attempting to work. So my question is, what is the part number for replacement? It unlocks fine, just wont lower completely unless i push down hard.

My 2012 sometimes acts out, but at the next ignition cycle, it's perfectly fine. It has happened twice in the 2-1/2 years and 5K miles I've owned it. If your car is old, then maybe the motor is out. But check it a few times after ignition cycles to eliminate gremlins as the cause. Good luck.

Mine started intermittently, then recently just gave up. Do you know if there's an actual motor outside the latch or is it an actual motorized latch assembly itself? I found the part on gmparts but no explanation as to what causes the pull down of the lid when closed.

I would get it disassembled and test connections and the motor itself before replacing parts. There is a simple limit switch that causes the motor to start and pull the trunk down...that switch would be more likely to go bad than the motor itself. Might be that it just needs a shot of contact cleaner in it.

Yeah, now is a good time to remove it (you'll have to do that anyway), take it apart, see how it works, test motor and connections, lube everything, and determine which parts (if any) need replacing, and if you can buy them separately or the entire latch assembly. And please take pics and let us know what you found, so others have an easier time in the future. Good luck man.

No sigh, this makes complete sense. The limit switch that trips the motor is right there on top because it is the first thing that the striker hits when the trunk goes down...and WD40 is a very good contact cleaner. Back when there were distributors, WD40 was the thing to spray inside a wet distributor cap to get the engine to start.

Try pulling the hatch release button by the key latch above the license plate and cleaning it. The button can get stuck in the pressed in mode, and cause some problems.
