Default 2007 keyless remote replacement

I need to replace a remote for a 2007 C6 coupe. I like the styling of the 2008 remote and was wondering if it was possible to pair the 2008 remote with a 2007 C6?

Thanks in advance.

It is. Do the same procedure as you would with the older version and it will work. You may want to do the long procedure and start from scratch if you want the new fob to be number one or two. If you already have 2 fobs programed to the car the new one will be 3 and you won't get any of the memory setting to go with it.

When you say the long procedure is that the one where I have to slam doors, open glove boxes, jump up and down and run around the car three time??? Just kidding. I read somewhere of a more involved procedure versus using the Drivers Information Center (DIC).

I want the new fob to be fob/key #1.

Thanks.

It is possible, you will hear that it is not with certain vin codes you cant but I did it. if you need any help let me know, I had a copy made at Walmart and just groung .010 of either side of the key to make it thinner. Lopped off the paddle and drilled and tapped the little hole at the top of the key. I really love the new fob, for the 45 bucks I spent on ebay for it it is probably my favorite mod for the money. really though any questions or problems I would be willing to help and I may be convinced to just have you send it to me to do for you if you are intimidated by any portion of this.

Wow, that's a bit more involved than I expected, especially the "ground .010 off of either side" part. I was hoping that I could buy the new remote, take nye visiting key to a locksmith, have him grind out the key on the blank contained in the new fob, go thru the paring pain the neck and be done with it....

By the way, I too have a black C6 a 2007....love it....

lol a real key dealer ie not Walmart might have a better blank, but I used a Walmart key, and I am a toolmaker so it just a matter of dropping it on the surface grinder. it took a little bit of work but very well worth is in my opinion, the old style the key digs in to your leg sometimes and it looks so much more modern and cool

Yeah, I don
t really have a problem with the key digging into my leg as I go naked...ha I mean I go without the key, I just have the remote in my pocket (with a fresh new battery of course). That's why I want to get the newer style remote with the key built into the package.

Are you saying that the key blank contained in the new style remote will not work in an older C6 without all the grinding or am I misunderstanding....

Thanks

Bob

No, I am just saying that a key dealer or real key shop might have a better blank that doesn't need to be ground but I didn't have the blank so I just went to Walmart had them copy the key. I chopped the top of the key off and ground .010-.015 off each side of it and then screwed it on the metal bottom of the new 2008 key style. A key dealer could probably do it with the regular blank but I think with the problem was is that the blank they give you with the fob is not wide enough for all the notches on the 2005 2006 so that's why I copied the key I have an made it work from there.

I'd stick with the original style fob.
We had the early style on our 2006, and now the later style on our 2009, lots of miles on both.

The new style is bigger, heavier, more fragile, harder to change the battery, easier for stuff in your pocket to push the buttons, and practically requires you to keep the fob and the key together so you can lose them both or lock them both in the car.
A major step backwards.
