I am going to install the ZR1 exhaust I bought last fall on my 08 LS3 because it is warm now, could not see me on the cold floor in the garage. I polished up the exhaust manifolds and the under side of the Cats. I'm looking to polish the X pipe but when I start to do my initial sanding of the pipe I'm noticing that it looks 2 different colors, one being the normal silver color and the other is looking sort of a milky silver and when I polish it, it still looks 2 different colors. Is the X pipe made of a different type of Stainless steel that you cannot polish up? I know it's under the car and no one will see it...I'm trying to learn about polishing of metals in general, this is an educational thing I am on right now.

The low grade T409 stainless in exhaust systems is good enough to give long life but you heed a higher grade T304 if you want to polish it up to a shine.
