I've done quite a bit of searching for this and couldn't find an answer so I was hoping that someone here could identify the problem.
Basically there is about an inch and a half of dead space in my clutch pedal after a recent Auto-X. Sometimes when the pedal is pressed down it returns to the beginning of the dead space other times it pops all the way back out. It's difficult to explain so I shot a 7 second video:
I looked at the pedal assist spring and it appears to be intact to my untrained eyes. In fact everything in the pedal assembly looks ok so I'm really not sure what to check next.
For starters, put the return spring back in. Either it was removed, or it snapped and was not replaced. If the c6 clutch return spring feels too strong, the install a C5 clutch return spring instead.
From there, change the clutch fluid, and with luck, your master cylinder is not on the way out from clutch dust dirty fluid that has scorn the plastic cylinder walls/seals-plunger on the master cylinder.
