Has anyone had a surging while cruise control is on? I was on a 250 mile run and when I had the cruise control on at about 65 or 70, you could feel a forward surg. Did not go up or down in speed, that I could tell , just felt like it would surge.
Thanks
Jerry
Don't recall any discussion about that over the years. Certainly sounds like a problem that should be at least documented at the dealer, preferably diagnosed and fixed.
I use cruise control a lot in all of my cars (even in the city) and have never experienced a similar surge...however, I don't understand that you are saying that the speed never went up?
I had a similar problem YEARS ago and it wasn't a Vette. Heck, I don't even remember what vehicle had the problem, but I do remember it was the digital speed sensor in the Cruise Control unit. Given the number of years and the technology advances since, I wouldn't even speculate if the CC operates using the same mechanics/electronics as back then. Good luck!
The ECM controls the throttle body and once Cruise is engaged by pushing the switch the ECM performs the cruise function. Any surging could be due to a signal going to/from the ECM varying in a manner it isn't supposed to or an issue within the ECM. Since it is all a big feedback network anything from the O2 sensors to the MAF sensor and everything in between could be the source of the issue. If it is just a small variance the ECM's self test circuitry and software might not see it as being out of tolerance.
The surging might be there when you aren't using cruise but you don't notice it since you are varying the throttle with your foot. You might try holding your speed by controlling the throttle yourself and see if you notice any similar symptoms.
Our 2009 A6 (and many other owners) has a slight surge when going downhill at a very light throttle setting, and cruise control will amplify that because it tries really hard to keep the car at the desired speed. It all happens because the LS3 has a tough time being precise at light throttle.
Going uphill, level, or down a steep grade, no problem.
