I bought a 2007 Corvette about a year ago and it had about 19,000 miles on it. My mechanic inspected when I bought and all seemed fine. I drive the Vette daily and a few weeks after purchase, started to notice a sound which turned out to be the differential. Had it serviced in September at 24,000 miles on it. Everything was fine for several months, but then started to hear the noise again and had differential serviced again in March at 27,000 miles. After a couple of weeks, I started to hear the noise from the differential again (kind of a grinding sound). It is sporadic but I want to know what to do to get rid of this. I'm a gal and don't know much about cars. Any advice would be appreciated,
Do you know if your mechanic has used the correct oil, without extra friction modifier? And did he, or you, do a series of slow "figure 8's" to work the new oil into the clutches after the refill?

Thank for info about figure 8's. I did not do this and I don't think the mechanic did either as I was there when work was completed and he did not leave with the car after servicing differential. I will have it serviced again and request the figure 8's or do that myself. Thanks very much for your help.
It's a grinding sound. Only occurs at slow speeds when cornering.
its the clutch pack , drain gear oil and put in royal purple or some equivalent with the additive for limited slip already in the gear oil and add another bottle of additive and you wont here the noise again, and the locker will work great spin both wheels, if you put the new gm gear oil to fix the noise it will probably do 1 leg burnouts
Our 2009 now at 70k miles came with the new GM diff fluid (which does NOT need an extra additive), lights up both tires together. Never any noise from the diff, either. Lots of satisfied customers with the new GM spec fluid.
My guess is that if the GM fluid doesn't quiet his diff, neither will any other brand.

Haven't heard that one before. The GM LS oil is supposed to be pretty good with the friction modifiers already added.
Sandy, if the correct oil was installed, you may not have to take it back to have it replaced a third time. I would try the low speed figure 8's first to see if that corrects the problem.

I would think the same as you guys , but mine got the noise, the dealer did the new oil change and the figure 8s, I even did the figure 8s no more noise, car seemed to take off straighter seemed to stop fish tailing, went to track peg leg burnouts, had to do the burnout closer to the water after going threw it, everybody said need new clutch packs, so I decided to try new oil, got royal purple, it has the additive already in it. didnt see a change so I added more additive and did the 8s and then it started fish tailing, now its been two more years and two sets of drag radials and its never peg legged again, and yes I was satisfied with the new gm fluid, no noise and it was fine in everyday driving but the drag strip proved it wrong

if you have to keep servicing the differential your tech is probably using the wrong gear oil. p/n-88862624 gear oil needed. do not add friction modifier to it as already pre-mixed.do a dozen slow speed figure 8's after service

She may have to buy the fluid herself and bring it to the mechanic. It's called DEXRON LS.
