I've got a 05 z51 m too. I am also worried about my diff. I dont race or drag but I'm a young guy with a vette haha I'd like to put a supercharger on it but I'm afraid of the big boom in the back...
I race quads, I fully understand the pay to play Haha I could buy a pritty decent new economy car for the amount I have in quads but $6k for my car I barely have time to drive, I'll save it to add to my C7 down payment hahaha
Wheel hop is what kills them, drag radials helps absorb the shock from wheel hop, also better shocks helps stop wheel hop, you can do a c5 diff swap, or get an adapter to put a second generation diff in the automatic, the manual is cheaper to do, I had about 400 passes and no problems, I let someone drive a pass and didn't let out when it wheel hoped and cracked the case but that was with a lot of 1.4 60 fts

you have 400 passes on what? oem differential?
hmmm, interesting,,,i have experienced wheel hop one time..it was with the Trac Ctr off..had a lot of spinning...i switched to Trac on when launching and havent had it again...
would solid trans mounts help save the oem differential? or make it worst?

yes the oem stock dif case with 373 gears but had about 200 on the stock 315 gears, the car went 10.62 with bolt/ons with that dif, now i have the second generation dif with those same 373 gears and dif just a different case. the runflats are hard on the case get a pair of qa1 double adjustable shocks, I have been 1.34 60 fts on soft launch with this setup NA 10.16 132 mph, have run nitrous on the street racing. still holding and I have the stock mounts no brace, dont do dry burnouts.

wow,,yeah remember reading your other posts about when you blew it out on your 302nd pass..!! at 5,500 rpm!! crap!!!,,that's a launch..
im just barely getting into the drag strip excitement...just for fun..this is my DD -street tires, cam and full exhaust plus a dyno.. i take it to the local 1/8 track and do 2-3 passes per week..not trying to beat anybody,,just have fun... i dont do burn outs...just a small min burnout to clean them right before a line up...i leave at 1700 rpm with Trac on and shift right a 6000rpm...but ive spinning a lot on 2nd gear and my friends rec. the drag radials,,,so that's why im asking about my oem differential and drag radials...

that might have been JoeG, I have an automatic with a 3800 converter, I cant launch over 2000 without going up in smoke, but thats were I noticed the wheel hop more on the street just a slight dew in the air and taping the throttle it would spin and very slight hop so i quit doing that, the hop in second on the shift is bad, get the drag radials

That was me, I cracked my rear in half on my 302nd launch. Good memory on the number!
Wheel hop is what kills, but even without wheel hop the number of 1.4 60 foots are limited, it's not a 12 bolt chevy or dana 60 for pete's sake.
That said, I've got 494 launches like this on my OE clutch, and I'm on my second diff, a C5 diff which is much cheaper to buy. You have to make or buy an adaptor for your cradle if you get a c5 rear. Stanger383 used to make them if you need one.
If you get drag radials (most highly recommended) and don't ever, EVER try to ride out wheel hop (let off immediately) your rear will last a while, they are not made from glass.
As Dennis said, NEVER try a burnout on street tires. I won't race on them either, it's a waste of gas.
Geez that was quik!!!!was that launch on 1st gear? I didnt hear any rev limiter either. If the c5 dif can handle that thats the fix period
You always want to launch in 1st gear. I do my burnouts in first gear too to make it easier on the clutch. And you don't want traction control on when you race, it slows you way down. And know where your rev limiter is and stay out of it, if you it it, it'll slow you down as the car pulls timing and doesn't recover right away.
Here is a great website to help you get started in drag racing. Study it all, listen to the videos, and be religious on the clutch fluid maintenance.
I've been religious with my clutch fluid and I have the OE clutch with 76,000 daily driving stop and go traffic miles and 494 launches like that. 4.10 gears help a lot in making the clutch live, it gives the clutch a longer lever to work with.
And if you decide to mod your car, this thread might help you decide where to invest your money first.
