Default Looking for spins advice.

Hey there. I've done so much searching the past few weeks for the right cam it's crazy!!!! Hey spin if you can chime in that would be great. Ok I want a cam for my ls2 that's gonna be loud and choppy but still put me close to 500rwhp. I have an 06 ls2 with manual. The upgrades going on the car are as follows. Corsa sport exhaust kooks 1.75 headers with catless x pipe, k&n cold air intake, stage 2 cnc ported ls2 heads, all new valve train with new timing chain, 160 degree thermostat. Now all that's left for me is the cam. As I said I want a loud choppy thumpy cam that still makes the power I want. Car is a daily driver for 2 1/2 months of the year. Rest of the time she's stored. I know I need an intake but that can wait until next year. So what's your opinion??? Thanks bud.

Are you able to upgrade heads?

Ported 243 heads won't hit 500rw

If anyone says you can, (a porter/ seller of ported heads) ask them for the magic cam specs that made the 500rwhp.

Spin while your here can you give us your opinion on the ported fast intakes, a few members shops have said they are only worth about 5 rwhp above the ported stock, I think some dyno lower

Hey spin thanks for getting back to me so quick. Ok what heads and cam would you recommend. My shop is going with all comp cam parts. I think he can get a good deal. As for the heads what would you recommend and what cam. As I said I want a nice choppy loud cam that can get me between 450 to 500 rwhp. Thanks again.

Having ported well over 100 of them, they get you 24rwhp/27rwtq. The best dyno results I've seen were 27/33 to the wheels. I rarely posted any of my own results and let other shops tuning my ported FASTs post their results and not once did a person report back 5rwhp or a loss. Statistical inference also involves a good sample size. If they installed one and it didn't work, then its a poor sample space. The LS3 does not respond much to a ported FAST so if that is the 5rwhp sample, it's likely a correct result. If an owner lost power they should find a new tuner or have the FAST checked by an independent. Sending me pics of the intake runner will unfold that anomaly. The LS3 does respond better to a ported stock LS3 intake. Bob at Peak Speed shop has a radical porting for that manifold that is way more than a regular porting. http://peakspeedshop.com/

Not all 'porters' are porters. Some are dangerous people with a die grinder. Porting isnt about removing material, its about smoothing transitions by removing the least amount of material. I have re-ported botched FASTs with great success but understand that you cant put material back in most cases. My porting education began with a video on how to do it. It was the Standard Abrasives porting video. After that, I messed up a few to see how far you can go before you blow through a wall. Then I began selling the service as a supporting tuner here with great success.

If anyone has a poor porting done by a seller that isnt a porter, I will fix it for nothing to help them out. If someone needs the install checked and lives close by, I will pop it on for pizza while we listen to music. I'm just trying to help.

My cam hits 458rwhp with stock LS2 heads and a ported FAST.

This is the idle:

With a decent ported LS2 head it will hit 470rwhp.
With meth injection it would near 490rwhp.
With Trick Flow 225s its 505rwhp without meth injection/525rw with.

Buy the cam here for $385 (A forum Vendor):

Default Looking for Spin's comments

SpinMonster,
First let me say, I enjoy all of your posts and advice and they played a role in my decisions.
Tell me what you think of my combination of soon to be installed parts. I have an 07 C6 A6
I have purchased the following: TFS as cast 220 heads milled to 62cc (stage 1 port by Brian Tooley) FAST 102 (port matched by Brian Tooley) EPS cam 230/234 .604 .604 113+2 Pfadt 1 3/4" headers w/ catted mid pipe.
I installed a FTI 3600 stall this past weekend.

Comments welcome. Thanks,
