has anyone broke a c6 z06 diff..i did last night with a 5k launch,i made a mistake and just dumped the clutch but with a stock car with bolt ons I figured it would have still held up...has anyone changed cases or do I have to buy another whole unit???

Sorry it broke but I would have loved to see that launch, must have really got busy before it became a grenade. Think Z06 at 5K will break almost anything that is stationary. Suspect that a whole unit might be best, some salvage yards have em.
Dude sorry to hear about that. Check out rpm transmissions. I have an 05 and if and when the grenade goes off they are who I will be going to. http://www.rpmtransmissions.com/
Appreciate it guys..r pm has nice stuff but the z and zr1 diff really is about strong as I'm gonna get,I found out earlier..when they build them they basically use the z stuff and some 300m out put shafts.. but man I meant to slip the clutch out and I was thinking in that particular drag race..oh well

Do you know what broke yet exactly? I'm guessing the driverside output shaft of the differential. I've only heard of one failing personally besides the typical axle failures, which is a cheaper/easier weak link to fix.

If you are racing a lot or if you ever get wheel hop, you better replace it before it goes, when it goes it bends the transmission mainshaft which is around $2,400 to fix (retail) and entails a complete trans rebuild. If you replace the diff before the case cracks in half you don't need the trans rebuild.
Don't think a diff brace is going to change that outcome.

This might not help, but I've broken several of them however not in the manner you're referring to.
In my situation the topmost ears used to snap off because with the 6L80E the connection point for the differential to the transmission is a bolt on plate rather than the entire case when it's mated to a Z06 transmission. I had my cage builder make me a custom brace and haven't had an issue since then despite putting a few hundred passes on the car.
Even though I'm launching at a much lower RPM than what you tried (usually around 2000) I've found the differential to be virtually indestructible. I had to have one rebuilt a couple years back by replacing the posi unit after all the clutches and side gears wore out, but even after over 800 passes the ring and pinion in it looked brand new. This is compared to the two "upgraded" base C6 differentials I had run previously, both of which puked their internals out the back of the case when I launched the car at the track.
Curious how many you know of that have broken the spider gears? I know of only one personally is why I ask.
I know one guy who broke spider gears but he'd converted to a 3.90 regular c6 rear in his z06. He was able to drive home and get the spiders replaced. He was pretty much dumping his clutch on bias tires when it happened, he hadn't raced in years. I have videos on my youtube page, it was back in 2010.
I have a 3800rpm triple disc stall and my 60' is in the mid to high 1.3 second range. My car will dead hook and lift the front tires on a stock ZO6 rear diff at the track. I have never broke a thing but I also installed one of Subfloors Trans/ diff braces. You can see the mod list in my signature.

I've known 2. Then again they were dumping clutch at 5k+ and already had hardened output shafts so it seemed like the next thing to go.
Thanks, that makes sense being you can always find the next weakest link as nothing is bulletproof

I would never recommend putting in a base C6 rearend in a C6Z and would personally upgrade trans to MZ6 ratios (which would be the same 1-3 as 3.90s in the rear and base trans gears) to keep the stronger rear even though the shift extension isn't as good.

you can't dump the clutch in an IRS car on 17" wheels like you can a solid rearend car on 15" tires that have more sidewall.

I agree with all your points 100% Chris. That said, the gent in question did this back before the grand sport was out with it's MZ6 ratios on a 30 spline mainshaft. Now that that's possible, I'm with you. Keep in mind however, Gary2004z06 has both like I do, MZ6 and 4.10...it's great for clutch life as we know.
My friend JustinJor/Juic3d went to Mustang and put in a twin turbo last week...those guys amaze me with their 6000 rpm clutch dumps that they don't leave the rear end cracked in half. Check this out. No Vette would take this...he even gets the wheels up on the 1-2!
Well guys I posted a pic of one peice of my damage^^^^^^^^^^^UP TOP. ..I broke the trans output shaft, extension housing cracked, diff cracked....very depressing!!!!!does anybody make a trans diff brace for the z06 trans and diff????

Haha, I do Didn't realize Gary switched to MZ6 ratios as well though.
That's impressive rowing the gears regardless if it was in a solid axle car...didn't know he converted to a Stang, but was wondering why I hadn't seen him around so makes since lol
That's the same ET Ray went in his F-body with our twin disc, just a slower mph so I'm sure Justin will go faster.

That sucks, I broke my stock on my 27 spline dead hooking a 6k rpm launch. Jared(darkbluez) has been 1.29 60' on his stock rearend, not saying a brace won't help, but slipping the clutch some to not shock the tires as bad or running bias ply tires will save your rear no pun intended. RPM makes a hardened output shaft that you might as well upgrade to, curious what tires you run?

We have them in stock, the brace pictured a few posts above is one of our braces, or a blatant carbon copy of one.
I always slip it but the adrenaline was pumping on a grudge race..and I wasn't thinking and I just jumped off it and Boom!!. I run a 17 inch et street bias ply ..to absorb some shock
