Default LG 1 7/8 headers...

Hi people. I've got a question. I just purchased an 05 C6 Z51 (6 speed) about a week ago now. It has LG 1 7/8 long tube headers, and some kind of intake (I forget what it is) and a street tune he said I'm making 430 at the wheels? Some cars I've raced and beat claim the same also, but idk for sure you all may have a better idea than me. With currently no axle back installed. It's a bit loud. Doesn't sound to bad but I mean I'd like it to be quieter, unless I'm on it, but at cruising speeds I'd like to hear my music and talk to the person riding shotgun. Anyway here is my concern...i need to buy an axle back and the guy said to purchase 3" axle back, I'm guessing to fit the headers? Is this what I need, or do I need 2.5? I've been reading people say 3/4 is better unless you plan on putting massive power on the car. I'm not doing that. 450-500 would be my max, if I even decided to take it that far lol. I'm mainly just into appearance and something kinda quick on the streets! What do you guys recommend I go with, and the type of axle back also. I want something that'll basically direct fit and not sound like crap also, and no drone...whatever that is exactly lol.

Also I know some of you will probably recommend I go with 3/4 headers but I'm really not gonna do that, they are already over 1600 bucks I'm just gonna leave it as it is and add from there. Thanks for the help guys...

Here's a link for the headers installed now.. http://www.lgmotorsports.com/product_info.php?cPath=343_435&products_ id=2113

Do you have cats? If not, adding them will quiet it down a little. Honestly the quietest exhaust you are going to get would be stock NPP exhaust. Quiet and drone free until the flaps open and gloriously loud when they do open. You could also get the Billy Boat axle back that is dual mode.

You would need to look under your car to figure out if the old owner decided to do 3" exhaust all the way back. If it is 3", you need to shop for axlebacks for a Z06.

There is no way an LS2 is making 430rwhp with a stock cam. Headers and intake LS2 should be around 370-380rwhp.

The size of the axle back muffler system you buy depends on the size of the midpipe outlet you are running with those LG headers. If it's a 3" midpipe then that's what you need If it's a 2.5" then that's what you need. It could be either since midpipes come in 3 x 3 and 3 x 2.5 sizes. So get under there and look. As far as a non droning system, Corsa has a good system which I run and have no drone and comes in 3 or 2.5 inlet systems.

More like 430 h.p. at the crank ,no way at the wheels.A lot of people are very optomistic with their rwhp numbers. You re doing very well if you add thirty horses from a cai, headers and a tune on a stock ls2.

So do i measure the diameter across or around when i get under there and look?

That's cool, that's what he told me so I'm not sure. Just gave him the benefit of the doubt....what are some things I can do to add power besides FI. Don't wanna do anything serious, I would just like to get somewhere around 450-500 to the wheels IF possible without going FI (forced induction) I don't plan on having the car long maybe 2 years then upgrade to another vette (maybe)

Pipe sizing is by diameter.

HP numbers...only way to know for sure is to get it on a dyno. That being said my 2006 car made 357 stock, and with our headers and a cold air it put down 383 to the tire. An LS2 is hard to do 430 to the ground without a cam of some sort or cylinder heads.

We make the 1 7/8 for both the base cars and the Z06/ZR1 alike. Depending on how that system was configured what muffler you need to use with it.

One quick test would be to check the rear pipes after the X and see if they remain at 3" or if they neck down to 2.5".

That being said you can purchase a pair of pipes from us to meet which ever need you want.

Automatic transmission cars are hard to get a 3" over the axle system to work, but it is possible. The manual trans cars, it is plug and play.

A 3" system is not going to hurt anything and would help you later on if you want to continue to make more power. If you want something that is both quiet on trips and loud when you want it to be, see if you can not find a take off set of C6ZR1 mufflers and buy a retro fit NPP in a box.

What would be better custom exhaust or vendor bought exhaust. A speed shop in my area told me "depending on what I want it could be better, it'll run anywhere from 500-2000" I'm really not trying to spend no where near 2000 on some exhaust. I'd like to save some money but also not lose much power and still have something that sounds good only when I'm on it. . .

What would be better is in the eye of the beholder. No one can decide that for you. Do some research, look around for other Corvettes and listen to them. Go to a Corvette Club in your area and talk and listen. I'm happy with my Corsas, but you might not be. Exhaust sound is a very personal thing from person to peson.

On most C6 builds HP doesn't really change to much between muffler companies. Between 2.5" and 3" yes there is a difference and the larger pipe will support more HP.

For the rest of it...I compare it to beer.

You like Domestic or Import? Light or Dark? Mainstream or Micro brew? Everyone has an opinion on each as to what they like, and you need to do the same.

Now if we were talking a 1000hp car, then a custom exhaust might be more in line for what you need to accomplish with the build.

Other than that...Budweiser or Guinness?

Lmao you guys are silly, but I see what your saying. It's all personal preference. I'll look on YouTube and watch some videos. I'm a noob when it comes to performance so that's why I get people's opinions from the forums. This is actually my first domestic car so it's kinda different. Last car was a g37 coupe and nothing really special after that. But I'll listen on YouTube like you guys suggest.

Also I won't come close to a 1000hp maybe 430-500 max around that ballpark.

Tulsa, Oklahoma is very small so it's hard. I'm not picky. As long as it's quiet DD'ing it and a beast when I'm attempting to try leave somebody in my rear view mirror lol.
