So I'm having some clutch issues. Car is a 2007 C6 widebody putting down 450 RWHP and 427 RWTQ. The drivetrain has the following:
McLeod twin disc clutch
Tick Performance adjustable master cylinder
Fully rebuilt T56 transmission from TKO Performance
MGW Short-throw shifter
The problem I'm experiencing is that there's very little travel in the clutch pedal, making it hard to drive. Also the clutch makes a very nasty grinding noise when you put pressure on the pedal (you don't even have to depress the clutch, just adding pressure with your foot will produce the noise).
There is no trouble shifting in and out of gear, but if you depress the clutch pedal and just shift into gear while idling, the noise is affected by this.
The clutch has just over 12,000 miles on it and sees little more than occasional spirited driving. I do not track or race the car, it is a daily driver that is usually driven under normal conditions. I highly (and hopefully) doubt my clutch would need replacing after such a short time.
The clutch fluid reservoir is full and contains clean, uncontaminated fluid (refreshed using the Ranger method). Additionally the Tick adjustable master cylinder is dry with no signs of leaks.
have you tried adjusting the rod on the master? the noise is likely the release bearing, sorry but the tranny will need to come out.
I thought that if it was a throwout bearing it would make a whining / howling noise. This is a scratching noise. I'm going to have to try adjusting the rod, but I have to get it to my shop and put it up on the lift and I'm rather afraid to drive it the way it is. I'm afraid I'm eating up my clutch.
Just got the car to the shop, will dig into it tomorrow or the next day. Noticed a few more things on the drive there. The grinding noise happens as soon as you put pressure on the clutch pedal, and continues as you depress the pedal to the floor. If you hold the pedal on the floor the noise is constant. Also when there isn't any pressure on the pedal at all, there is a bird-like chirping noise, and that noise stops when you put pressure on the pedal. Driving, there is a noticeable amount of vibration coming from the pedal that you can feel with your foot.
Really does sound like a throwout bearing. Hope not for your sake and will look forward to your report after bleeding.
It really does, doesn't it? I can't even believe it... After such a short time, it makes me wonder whether the shop I brought it to did the job somehow wrong.
Its the retaining clip that goes onto the dust cover on the front of the slave cylinder... Something happened inside your bell housing... Need to get it apart
I'm going to have it torn down and replace what's necessary. I believe it may have been caused by the removal of the clutch return spring, which is recommended by Tick Performance in the installation of their master cylinder but as I'm learning from research can actually have damaging effects. I bought a Lingenfelter Clutch Return Spring to prevent it from happening again.
Say my clutch has 80% meat left on it, is it a stupid idea to leave it in there and just replace what's broken?
So I know this is a bit unrelated and don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have been hearing some strange noises from my clutch and i'm sure its only a matter of time till something in there goes bad. I've also been contemplating some engine mods. I've seen some threads on pulling the driveline on these cars. Is it easier to pull the engine and go about clutch type repairs from that way?
