Default z06 Normal Coolant Temps?

Hey guys.. I just bought a new(to me) 2006 z06 with 29k miles. It has a lethal racing enforcer cam package and a 160 degree t stat. What is the normal operating temperature suppose to be? I live in Atlanta where its hot.

It looks like its about 205ish but when i am sitting in traffic its a little over 220

Seems a little high at least for my LS3 motor. Not sure about the 427.

Especially with the 160* stat.

Check the radiator intake grill for debris.

With the 160* stat I ran 168-174. 192-200 with stock 188* stat.

Never ran a bigger cam so not sure of the effects that would have.

I did check the radiator intake and it looks fine. I took a low pressure washer to it yesterday and sprayed it down while i was washing the car.

You might want to ask this question in the Z06 forum.

The stat itself doesn't create any extra cooling persay it allows coolant to begin flowing into rad sooner, when water temp hits 160 as opposed to 195. While your moving it can get down to 160 giving you the cooler temps because of the air coming across rad but standing still it'll be as a normal car & cooling doesn't begin until fan turns on.
An option is to have fan turn on sooner, set to on at a lower temp for standing still situations.

One of the reasons a 160 is a waste of time and effort. 220 is within the range of normal operating temps. These engines are not the same as the ones from the 1960s and can easily handle the higher temps. On the road a stock thermo (186 deg) will hold the coolant temp to around 200 in hot weather and there really isn't any advantage to getting it any cooler.

OP: If you use the digital gauge on the DIC you can get a much more accurate reading on the coolant temp. The analog gauge you show in the picture doesn't have enough resolution to show the actual temp.

Exactly where it should be. More important is your oil temp. that should be from 185 to 205 in normal driving but could go lot higher if you are tracking.

Take the cover for the radiator and ac condensor off and clean in front of the radiator. If you are not doing this you are only cleaning the ac radiator. I tooke mine apart and their was Alot of grass and road debri. My temps went down at least 10 degris. You will be happy you did. Just maintence since how low these cars are.
