OK with all these threads about CAI how about if we post up some pictures of what people THINK are Cold Air Intakes. I'll go first here is mine, it is home made.
Any part that just replaces the stock intake is not a CAI.
A CAI requires volumes of fresh/cold air to enter the filter either thru a cut or reworked radiator shroud or by openings thru the fenders/facia that allow lots of fresh air to reach the filter.
The only examples I've worked with are the Vararam and the Lingenfelter. Since no K&N requires a cut shroud no K&N is a CAI.

Yes and my Thread does not ask for an explanation, I am looking for pictures. Do you have any pic's to add?
K&N in combination with a Vette Air scoop and a Halltech Beehive cut for the K&N. Can't see vette air scoop in pics but you can here: http://www.theair-charger.com/veinsysa1.html

Nice clean looking application to create a CAI using parts from 3 different mfgrs. Ingenuity in action.
When I opened up my radiator shroud I kept the OEM filter from an LS7, no surge for me. I am thinking about a K&N filter but not until I can get a Tune. I like to read everything I can and then ponder the results before I act on things.
So far so good but I would like to see more pictures of others CAI systems perhaps with the opening showing. This thread is for all the Future CAI people as I already have mine. I was so frustrated when I was shopping that I just went ahead and made my own.

Be sure to read about the differences in filtration from independent lab test results. There's a nice chart somewhere here on the forum.

I did not find the chart but I did find an ACDelco Pro A3107C Air Filter for under $69 New, This is the ZR1 filter GM uses, it is least restrictive in the GM family. I'm going to drive up to Richmond and get Frost to do the Tune.
Come on people we need more pictures for all those folks thinking about doing this Mod.
Here's a link to THE ultimate C6 ram air system. At ~$1800 it's not the best bang for the buck but it is pretty and should work better than anything else I've seen:
