Default Front end "clink"

I recently installed a TVS2300 on my 2013 Grand Sport. The front end dropped a little due to the supercharger's extra weight. I raised it back up with the adjusting bolts on the front spring. At the same time, I had a front end alignment done.

Didn't have it before, but now I have a clinking noise when I go over an uneven surface while turning. I took it back to the shop that did the alignment. I've known the shop's owner for years and we both got under the car and double checked everything we changed. No smoking gun.

Fast forward several weeks. It's gotten way worse. I can make it clink while the car is sitting still by turning the steering wheel back and forth with the motor off. I got it up on my 2 post lift and everything looked good, but no clinking with the suspension unloaded.

My Vette has all of 3000 miles on it. Can't be the sway bar end links...or can it? I'm at a loss on where to look. Help appreciated.

Probably is. That's where I'd start anyway.

I guess I need to get it up in the air on lift that lifts it by the tires. Without weight on the tires, you can't hear it. You can hear the clink while its on the ground, but without getting under there, you can't tell where it's coming from. A semi plump snake won't even fit under the Vette. Maybe ramps would work, but I'm hesitant to get under there while jerking the steering wheel back and forth on my super Walmart ramps. Shoot.

It sounds like the steering rack is moving. You really need to tighten it down.

Yes, it was removed and reinstalled during the supercharger/cam install. I wonder why it was quiet for a thousand or so miles, then started the clinking noise after raising and aligning the front end.

possibly the extra weight gives moe grip to the tires making more torque needed to move the wheels side to side.
Thanks for the idea
same issue here only bigger stickier tires instead of a SC

You nailed it! Nothing appeared out of whack, but once I put a wrench on the bolts on either end of the steering rack, I knew they were too loose. I tightened them at least a full 360 degrees and maybe more. All is well now...well, except for that CAI thing...

Thanks needcheese

You are welcome. I had this problem happen after an alignment. I am glad all is well now.

I don't think they touch the rack during an alignment. I was "helping" the shop's owner do the alignment and never saw him touch those bolts. That's why I never thought to check them. Was it strictly a coincidence that yours and mine developed the noise after the alignment? I'm not understanding it....just glad it's gone.

after I did my last post, I remembered I had the oil pan gasket fixed. I got the car aligned after it was fixed. My brain was just thinking alignment when I was typing.

So...your brain wasn't aligned? I highly resemble that remark

I'm sorry. It had nothing to do with the subject. I'm just working through some issues with the Vette after the supercharger install. The "clink" is solved. Now, the CAI is the last issue (I hope) that I'm dealing with. Probably should make another thread to get help with that.

Most shops don't torque the rack like their supposed to. The constant tugging back and forth loosens them up.

Well, I didn't find it easily. I only found it after needcheese pointed me in the right direction. Lots of good/knowledgeable folks on this forum. There was actually a butt load of frustration between the first clink and the last one

I don't know when I'll have it up in the air again. The bolts aren't hard to find. Follow your tie rods from the wheels back toward the middle. The rack bolts take an 18mm wrench and they're thru bolted so you will need another 18mm wrench on the back side. The driver's side took a socket on the front side and a combination wrench on the back side. Passenger side took a combo wrench on both sides.
